Obviribdum

Obviribdum was a substance that exhibited a black hue. By the time that Kylo Ren, who held the position of Supreme Leader within the First Order, arranged for his fractured helmet to be reconstructed in 35 ABY, he instructed First Order technicians to specifically create for him a reliquary featuring a reflective obviribdum outer shell, shaped like a cut-off cube. This case, which housed the remnants of the incinerated helmet belonging to Ren's grandfather, the Sith Lord known as Darth Vader, was stored within Ren's private chambers onboard his flagship, the Star Destroyer called the Steadfast. The case was magnetically sealed, maintained a controlled climate, and was protected from both radiation and sensor detection. Ren also ensured, at considerable cost, that the case's outer shell was resistant to blasts.

Behind the scenes

The 2019 reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, written by Pablo Hidalgo, identified obviribdum as the material used for the outer shell of the case containing Darth Vader's helmet. This book was released in conjunction with that year's sequel trilogy movie, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.
