Ochotl

Ochotl, an agriworld situated within the Airam sector, resided in the Outer Rim Territories. The planet served as the operational base for Ochotl Ag, a company that harvested the chak-root plant. Furthermore, it held significance as the homeworld of Kob Mondray, a shockball player of galaxy-wide acclaim.

Around 22 BBY, actions initiated by Ochotl Ag's rivals significantly undermined the corporation's future prospects. This situation was further exacerbated by an assault from pirates, resulting in the destruction of Ochotl's orbital depots. Following the outbreak of the Clone Wars, Ochotl, along with the rest of the Airam sector, withdrew from the Galactic Republic and aligned itself with the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Description

Within the Outer Rim Territories' Airam sector, the Ochotl system was home to Ochotl, an agricultural planet. Orbital depots circled it, and it was located outside of the Pangarees. Ochotl Ag harvested chak-root on Ochotl, a plant that originated on Erysthes, a planet in the Corporate Sector.

History

Kob Mondray, a Human who became a shockball player, was born on Ochotl. He guided Ochotl Ag's corporate shockball team to the Airam Sector Championships in 31 BBY. Mondray's shockball career began there, and over the next years, he rose to become a galactic celebrity. However, despite his enormous wealth and opulent residences on places like Kuat and Spira, the athlete never felt at ease in the Core Worlds.

The Ochotl-based company Ochotl Ag exported chak-root (pictured) harvests off-world.

Ochotl Ag joined the Corporate Alliance at some point by 22 BBY in an effort to better compete with the agricultural businesses of the Pangarees. However, the Ochotl-based firm's rivals had sway in the courts of the Galactic Republic, and an investigation was started into a potential infestation of Ochotl by Corris-weevils.

Ochotl was placed on a three-year probationary list despite the lack of evidence of an infestation, and Ochotl Ag's entire chak-root crop was lost, effectively destroying the market for its goods. Furthermore, while the Corporate Alliance was trying to get Ochotl's case arbitrated, pirates operating out of Nocto in the Nocto system destroyed the orbital depots surrounding Ochotl. The Republic Outland Regions Security Force, which was also indirectly connected to Ochotl Ag's rivals, made only lukewarm attempts to respond to the attack.

The Clone Wars broke out in 22 BBY between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, of which the Corporate Alliance was a member. Following that, the entire Airam sector, including Ochotl, broke away from the Republic and joined the Confederacy. Also, in 22 BBY, Mondray, who had grown concerned about his homeworld's situation while it was still a part of the Republic, declared the end of his shockball career in order to serve in the Confederacy military.

Behind the scenes

Originally, Ochotl was supposed to be mentioned in the 2012 book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. However, the passage that would have mentioned the planet was removed before the book was released.

The information about Ochotl was later made available in 2014 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a collection of articles written by Fry and Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss for the StarWars.com Blog that included deleted content from The Essential Guide to Warfare. The Ochotl system, and consequently the planet itself, was placed in grid square L-20 by the Online Companion to the 2009 book The Essential Atlas.
