Opah-bladder bagpipes

The Lanai species, hailing from their homeworld of Ahch-To, crafted a unique musical instrument known as opah-bladder bagpipes, utilizing a blue and pink fish. These instruments featured brown pipes inserted into the fish's back, encircling the dorsal fin, along with a pipe placed in its mouth to serve as the mouthpiece for the Lanai musician. Hesper-Inguza, a male Lanai fish gutter belonging to the Temple Island Visitors, possessed and performed on a set of these opah-bladder bagpipes.

Behind the scenes

These opah-bladder bagpipes were originally conceived for inclusion in the motion picture Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi; however, the specific scene featuring them was removed prior to the film's official debut. Nevertheless, the instrument was still showcased in Star Wars: The Last Jedi: The Visual Dictionary, a companion book authored by Pablo Hidalgo and distributed in conjunction with the film's release on December 15, 2017.
