Orin Bold, residing on Ord Mantell, was a Human male who worked as a moisture farmer. He was also Nella Bold's father.
Orin Bold, a widower, and his daughter Nella operated a moisture farm situated near the Ten Mile Plateau around 37 BBY. It was at this time that Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn encountered them for the first time. Their life was isolated, stemming from the death of Bold's wife at the hands of Mantellian Savrips some years prior. The farm was substantial, said to be capable of supplying several nearby colonies with water. However, their business had been steadily declining for several years because the would-be Jedi Baron Taxer Sundown had been trying to seize their farm, as he had done with many others. Sundown achieved this by intimidating their customers to bankrupt them. Bold, who was a skilled mechanic, constructed a small force of makeshift war droids to defend his farm.
However, when the two Jedi arrived at the farm, they were met with hostility from Bold's droids and were compelled to defend themselves. Bold intervened only after most of the droids were destroyed. Initially, he and Nella were wary of the strangers, viewing their lightsabers as symbols of Sundown's militia, but they eventually grew to trust them. The Jedi pledged to investigate the matter on their behalf.
Bold was not actively involved in their investigation, but its outcomes had a profound effect on him. Nella, who had assisted the Jedi, was kidnapped and vanished into the wastelands. As the Jedi moved closer to their objective, coinciding with the migration of the savrips, they forced their enemy's hand. Sundown suddenly appeared at the Bold farm, compelled by the Jedi to hastily depart from the planet, and coerced Bold into aiding him in preparing his escape. Planning to eliminate Bold once he was no longer needed, he revealed the truth of the past years.
He boasted that he had mind-controlled Bold, using his farm as a cover for his illicit activities, and had forced him to use his technical skills to build lightsabers for his men. His daughter had been tricked into working as Sundown's courier. Most horrifying was the revelation of the true circumstances surrounding his wife's death. She had discovered him aiding Sundown, who had then forced Bold to kill her with his bare hands and blamed it on the Savrips as part of his smear campaign against them, afterward removing Bold's memory of the event.
At this moment, Padawan Kenobi arrived, hearing the final part of Sundown's confession. He attacked Sundown and the remaining droids, who now served him instead of Bold. With Sundown distracted, the enraged Bold struck him with his crutch, destroying the mind control device he had been using to pose as a Jedi and forcing him to flee.
With Kenobi's Master, Jinn, rescuing Nella, and Sundown's subsequent death, the immediate threats to Bold's life were eliminated. However, he still had to reconcile with his daughter and his restored memories.
Orin Bold was a proficient mechanic, capable of easily redesigning and converting droids. He passed on some of his skills to his daughter, who could jury-rig Mobquet and Subpro components to interface with Incom machinery. He could also manufacture lightsabers, a rare ability among those without the Force. Furthermore, he was a diligent and capable worker, managing his large moisture-farming complex largely independently, despite relying on a crutch due to an injured leg.
