Power fence
A power fence represented a particular kind of shield emitter crafted to offer perimeter defense for buildings. Upon activation, it generated shimmering barriers of dense, see-through blue-white energy, blocking the passage of both physical objects and energy-based projectiles. A power fence generator supplied the energy, and the energy barriers themselves were created by durasteel amplifier pylons. Commonly, power fences were positioned ahead of gates made of alloy or plascrete, vehicular barriers, and weapon stations. Both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire employed these fences during the Galactic Civil War that occurred between the two factions.
Behind the scenes
The initial mention of power fences within the new Star Wars canon appeared in Fully Operational, a 2018 resource book for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game released by Fantasy Flight Games. Their origin can be traced back to the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were initially referenced in The Star Wars Sourcebook, a 1987 resource book for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game by West End Games, authored by Bill Slavicsek and Curtis Smith.
