Precision hyperspace jump

A micro-jump, alternatively referred to as a precision hyperspace jump, represented a tactical maneuver involving a very short hyperspace jump, frequently executed within the confines of a single star system. A starship's pilot would initiate a jump to hyperspace, relying on a planet's gravity to bring them back to realspace. Certain pilots made use of the gravity field created by a gravity well projector as a method to arrive in a specific location, for example, a combat zone. Anakin Skywalker employed a precision jump as a survival tactic during the Battle of Praesitlyn. Luke Skywalker also utilized this technique while fighting the Yuuzhan Vong in the defense of Borleias. The Chiss Force Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo had mastered the execution of micro-jumps, even without the presence of a planet or artificial gravity well.

When performing a micro-jump, pilots often favored utilizing a slower, secondary hyperdrive, due to the increased navigational control it afforded. Furthermore, should the hyperdrive sustain damage during the jump, its replacement would be less expensive.

Executing a precision hyperspace jump offered a method for bypassing enemy blockades around a planet. This involved emerging from hyperspace beyond the enemy's defensive line, but it carried inherent risks, including the potential for collisions with nearby celestial bodies. This maneuver demanded a high level of piloting expertise. For example, during the Battle of Gwori, pilots were required to exercise extreme caution, as gravity fluctuations posed a threat of being pulled into the planet or colliding with a Separatist cruiser.

At the Battle of Saleucami, Anakin Skywalker employed a micro-jump to approach an enemy vessel undetected. Instead of appearing past the blockade, he approached the Separatist command ship without being detected, exiting hyperspace in close proximity to his target before decelerating.

Later, in 41 ABY, Marr Idi-Shael, a gifted mathematician and Force-sensitive individual, executed a precision hyperspace jump to maneuver the Junker near the Harbinger undetected, without relying on a gravity well.
