The Procurement Panel functioned as a legislative body within the Galactic Republic. It operated as a component of the Galactic Senate's Naval Subcommittee. This panel was operational during the time of the Clone Wars, which was a conflict against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Procurement Panel engaged in contractual agreements with a multitude of starship manufacturing businesses, including Sienar Fleet Systems, Kuat Drive Yards, Corellian Engineering Corporation, Rendili StarDrive, Cygnus Spaceworks, Incom Corporation, and Sublights Products Corporation. As a consequence of these contracts with these various corporations, the panel approved numerous starship designs from them for deployment within the Republic Navy.
The initial reference to the Procurement Panel within the current Star Wars canon occurred in Rise of the Separatists. This was a 2019 addition to the Star Wars Roleplaying game series created by Fantasy Flight Games. The Procurement Panel was originally introduced within the Star Wars Legends continuity through "Admiral Jerjerrod's Testimony," which was a short story written by Greg Gorden for the Imperial Sourcebook. West End Games published this sourcebook for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game in 1993.
