Progenitor

The Progenitor was an enormous female firaxan shark residing within the Hrakert Rift located on Manaan. The indigenous Selkath people entertained the notion that this creature might embody a legendary figure from their mythology, bearing the same designation, who was considered the progenitor of both their species and the firaxan sharks. Their legends further suggested that she either initiated the formation of the planet's kolto deposits or, at the very least, served as their protector.

Conversely, some scientists posited that her extraordinary size stemmed from an extended lifespan facilitated by consuming kolto.

Near the conclusion of the Jedi Civil War, the Galactic Republic established an illegal kolto-mining station in proximity to the Hrakert Rift. This station's construction was undertaken with the awareness and assistance of certain Selkath officials, who acted in defiance of their government's officially neutral stance in the conflict, motivated by their apprehensions regarding the potential consequences of a Sith Empire victory.

The mining activities disrupted the Progenitor, causing it to emit a psychic signal that induced madness in both the nearby firaxan sharks and the Selkath scientists stationed aboard the facility, leading them to engage in indiscriminate attacks and cannibalism.

Following the transmission of distress signals from the underwater installation, the Republic dispatched rescue missions and subsequently mercenary teams to investigate the situation; however, they too succumbed to the same perils. Roland Wann eventually sought the assistance of the Jedi Revan, also informing him of the presence of ancient ruins in the vicinity of the base, which potentially housed the fragment of the Star Map that Revan was seeking, thereby aligning their interests in pursuing an investigation.

After battling through the homicidal Selkath, he came across a fanatical scientist by the name of Kono Nolan, who possessed a poison theoretically capable of killing the Progenitor, but his assistant Sami was of the opinion that doing so would irreversibly contaminate Manaan's waters. As an alternative, she proposed that destroying the mining equipment by intentionally inducing a pressure surge would eliminate the source of the Progenitor's agitation. Nolan objected, arguing that this would hinder the mining operation, potentially inflicting significant damage on the war effort.

Following Sami's advice, Revan destroyed the kolto harvesting machine, and the Progenitor immediately became calm, even allowing him to approach the Star Map.

When officially questioned by the the Manaan High Court about the explosion detected on the sea bed, Revan revealed the presence of the Progenitor, which the judges of the court were extremely interested in, due to its similarity to the creature of legend, and were very concerned that it may have been harmed.

Behind the scenes

Alternate ending

In the event that Revan opts for the dark side approach, he instead introduces the provided toxin into the kolto harvesting machine's ventilation system, resulting in the death of the Progenitor, the pollution of Manaan's waters, and the destruction of all unharvested kolto on the planet. In the game, the prices of medical equipment increase. Revan is also banned from Manaan for destroying the kolto, as well as the Progenitor. This banishment can be averted if the player employs the appropriate responses to successfully blackmail the judges with knowledge of their involvement in the base. Furthermore, immediate confession results in execution.
