A collection of experimental warships was assembled in 3665 BBY by the Republic Navy in preparation for an assault on Dromund Kaas, the Sith Empire's capital. This fleet, spearheaded by the superdreadnaught Star of Coruscant and comprising vessels like the Vehement Sword and Sendant Pride, was traveling near the Hoth system with a protective escort when the Imperial Navy launched a surprise attack. This engagement, known as the Battle of Hoth, raged for several days, spanning multiple star systems, and culminated above the planet Hoth. The battle resulted in widespread destruction of both fleets and the death of the Republic's commanding officer, Colonel Laren Omas. The majority of the advanced prototype vessels, notably the Star of Coruscant, were wrecked on the planet's surface.
