Q5-7070 functioned as a B1-series battle droid within the Confederacy of Independent Systems' droid army. During operations on Opop Hibbedit, Q5-7070 was ejected from his squad's Multi-Troop Transport because the restraints were not properly fastened, resulting in a descent into the jungle environment below. The battle droid endeavored to return to his unit, but encountered hostile creatures native to the planet. Although he ultimately reunited with his squad, he lacked the opportunity to inform the squad's lieutenant about the faulty restraints, which led to a recurrence of the incident as they relocated. These occurrences were subsequently documented in "The One With the Green Thumb."
The initial appearance of Q5-7070 was in the comic book story titled "Tales from Wild Space: The Big March." Prior to its publication, Nick Brokenshire, the comic's artist, previewed Q5-7070's narrative, remarking that it potentially represented the most vibrant and visually rich story he had created up until that time.
