R8-B7, an astromech droid of the R-series, served Jedi Master Mace Windu throughout the Clone Wars. In the course of the conflict, R8 went with Windu to the planet Vanqor to find any remaining people after the Venator-class Star Destroyer Endurance crashed. While Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and the astromech R2-D2 joined Windu and R8 in investigating the remains of the ship, they did not know that two gundarks were hunting them. After the Jedi went deeper into the crash area, leaving R8 and R2 outside, the droids were attacked by the gundarks, which destroyed R8 in the ensuing fight.
