Ree Duptom, operating the Venesectrix, was a pilot and bounty hunter during the era of the Galactic Civil War, though he was notably disliked. He holds the dubious distinction of being the only individual ever expelled from the Bounty Hunters' Guild for the act of falsely accusing two fellow members and subsequently profiting from their resulting troubles. While regarded as the absolute worst by others in his profession, this did not prevent Duptom from continuing his career as an independent bounty hunter. He employed the same morally questionable tactics while under the employment of Kuat of Kuat's organization, fabricating evidence to implicate Prince Xizor in the Imperial attack on the Lars moisture farm located on Tatooine.
Around 3 ABY, Boba Fett discovered Duptom dead, his demise resulting from radiation exposure from the Venesectrix's engines. Aboard the ship, within one of the prisoner cells, Fett found Neelah, who had recently undergone a memory-wipe. Duptom had apparently taken her aboard. Fett took her into his care aboard Slave I, along with the droid that was instrumental in recording the fabricated evidence related to the moisture farm raid. The cause of Duptom's death remains ambiguous; it is unclear whether it was due to his own negligence in maintaining the engines or a deliberate act of sabotage, given that he had accumulated a substantial number of adversaries.
The name Ree Duptom is an anagram derived from Tom Dupree, who served as an editor at Bantam Spectra, the publishing house responsible for Hard Merchandise.
