The Rescue on Myrkr unfolded during the events of the Thrawn campaign. A temporary alliance formed between the New Republic and Talon Karrde's band of smugglers with the objective of overcoming Grand Admiral Thrawn's military presence on Myrkr. Although Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Mara Jade were successfully extracted, the smugglers found themselves unwillingly embroiled in the broader war.
Back in 9 ABY, Myrkr was geographically situated in a region that lay between the territories controlled by the Imperial forces and those held by the New Republic. At that time, Talon Karrde's organization maintained its primary headquarters on the planet Myrkr. In the initial stages of Grand Admiral Thrawn's military operation, Imperial forces advanced onto the planet to secure a supply of ysalamiri.
Following communication from Joruus C'baoth, Luke Skywalker set out for Jomark aboard his X-wing starfighter designated AA-589. However, the Chimaera, accompanied by an Immobilizer 418 cruiser, intercepted him nearly twenty light-years before he reached his destination.
Although he managed to escape initially, Talon Karrde and his group of smugglers aboard the Wild Karrde eventually captured him. He was then taken to Karrde's base located on Myrkr, but he ultimately escaped the base using a Skipray Blastboat. Mara Jade pursued him through the Great Northern Forest.

Simultaneously, Imperial forces had made their way to Talon Karrde's base and discovered Skywalker's presence on the planet.
After their Skipray Blastboats crashed, Mara Jade captured the Jedi. Later, as they attempted to leave the forest, they were both attacked and captured by Thrawn's forces. They were taken to Hyllyard City, where Lando Calrissian and Karrde's smugglers rescued them.
By engaging Imperial forces in combat and providing assistance to the former Rebels, Karrde's smugglers transformed into enemies of the Empire. Consequently, they were compelled to evacuate Myrkr and relocate to Rishi. This allowed Thrawn to freely establish a presence on Myrkr to acquire all the ysalamiri he required.
In response, Thrawn returned to Myrkr following the Battle of Sluis Van, deploying AT-STs and AT-ATs to invade the planet. However, as Thrawn had anticipated, Karrde had ensured that no trace of their presence remained.
