Retar was an Ardennian technician who held the position of delegate for the Ardennian Guild of Technicians during the time of the High Republic Era. In 231 BBY, while at the Republic Fair located on the Outer Rim planet Valo, this delegate engaged in a discussion with Jedi Master Stellan Gios. Their conversation, which lasted longer than thirty minutes, revolved around the complexities of carbon scoring removal during starship upkeep. Although Gios pretended to be fascinated, his interest waned, and he looked for a polite way to conclude their exchange.
Ultimately, Gios suggested Retar should see the Secrets of the Jedi display at the fair. He then gestured to OrbaLin, a Jedi archivist and fellow Jedi, to accompany the delegate there, implying the Cassadrean Matrix relic might be of special interest. Even though the Ardennian was keen to keep discussing ship repair, OrbaLin led Retar away as Gios watched them leave.
The 2021 novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm featured Retar; Cavan Scott wrote the novel as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
