Valo

Valo, a planet covered in forested areas, existed within the Valo system, situated at the edge of the Rseik sector. This world served as the homeworld for the Alcedian species, a sentient race of avian beings. During the [High Republic Era](/article/high_republic_era], the Galactic Republic chose Valo as the location for the Republic Fair, drawing dignitaries and visitors from across the galaxy. Around this time, Jedi Master Elzar Mann was slated to become the marshal overseeing Valo's Jedi Temple; however, a devastating attack by the Nihil on Valo resulted in widespread destruction and the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Following the destruction of Starlight Beacon, Valo faced another attack from the Nihil, leading to its confinement within the Occlusion Zone.

During the Imperial Era, Valo gained recognition for its barbeques. After [Reva Sevander](/article/reva_sevander], a former Jedi Padawan, aligned herself with the Galactic Empire's Inquisitorius, she hunted down surviving Jedi and Force-sensitives who were present on Valo.

Behind the scenes

Cavan Scott conceived Valo for the Star Wars: The High Republic publishing initiative, although its initial mention occurred in the 2020 short story "Fake It Till You Make It," which Scott penned for From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back. Valo made its debut concurrently in Scott's novel, The High Republic: The Rising Storm, and in The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower, authored by Daniel José Older and featuring illustrations by Petur Antonsson.

Initially, Scott envisioned Valo as the primary setting for his Marvel Comics series, Star Wars: The High Republic, albeit briefly. Subsequently, the planet's role was shifted to The Rising Storm instead. The name "Valo" originates from Avalon, a location prominent in Arthurian legend. The original name considered for the planet was Carnagra.
