Bonbraks, also known by the name barat-karabak, were a small hairy sentient species that originated on the planet known as Bartokan V. The Galactic Republic had designated them as a protected species. During the High Republic Era, a number of Bonbraks were employed in the garage owned by Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram.
Hailing from the planet Bartokan V, Bonbraks were a diminutive hairy sentient species. They generally possessed large ears, small brown eyes, and were of a size that allowed them to comfortably sit on a human's shoulder, being similar in size to an Anzellan. They had a fondness for drinking caf. Their own language, called Bonbreez, bore enough similarities to Anzellan that they were able to translate for Anzellans.
The musician Crufeela claimed that the most delicious way to consume Bonbraks was to eat them alive.
On their homeworld, Bartokan V, the Svor Clan revered the Bonbraks as gods, referring to them as the "barat-karabak," which translates to "fierce teeth." This reverence led the Clan to request a special designation for the species, resulting in the Galactic Republic's decision to classify the Bonbrak as a protected species.
Bonbraks eventually spread to various planets, including Valo and Corellia, where their presence was sometimes described as "infestations." Despite their sentience, Bonbraks were sought after in the black market for their purported flavor. Individuals would attempt to prepare Bonbraks for consumption through methods such as roasting or deep-frying.
During the High Republic Era, several Bonbraks worked in the garage of Jedi Padawan Ram Jomaram on Valo. Later, they accompanied Jomaram on his journey to the Starlight Beacon. A group of Bonbraks happened to be at Freerago's Satellite Diner and Motel when Parazeen Parapa from the Galactic Digest interviewed the bounty hunters Zuckuss and 4-LOM.
