Valo Republic Fair

The Republic Fair that occurred on the planet of Valo in 231 BBY was known as the Valo Republic Fair. Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh envisioned this festival, the first of its kind in many years, as a demonstration of recovery for both the Galactic Republic and the galaxy following the catastrophic Great Hyperspace Disaster and the subsequent Emergences that unfolded the year before. Lonisa City, the capital of Valo, underwent a significant transformation for the event, including the construction of a new spaceport and extensive renovations throughout the city. Soh extended an invitation to Elarec Yovet, the regasa of the Togruta species, as a distinguished guest, and the Jedi Order also played a significant role in the festivities. Coordinator Samera Ra-oon oversaw much of the fair's organization. However, the Nihil, who had been largely regrouping since the Battle of Kur, attacked the Fair just one day after its commencement, leading to widespread death and devastation.

Behind the scenes

The Valo Republic Fair was conceived as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic initiative, specifically within its second wave of releases. It is featured prominently in the novels The High Republic: The Rising Storm, penned by Cavan Scott, and The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower, authored by Daniel José Older and illustrated by Petur Antonsson. Both books were released on June 29, 2021.

Scott likened the Republic Fair to the World Fair for the Galactic Republic. A promotional poster for the Republic Fair was revealed on May 5, 2021, on the StarWars.com website dedicated to The High Republic.

A discrepancy exists regarding the frequency of the Valo Republic Fair. While The Rising Storm states that it was the first such event in a generation, The High Republic: A Test of Courage mentions that Avon Starros, at the age of twelve, had previously enjoyed rides at a past Fair.
