Elarec Yovet, a female queen of the Togruta species, reigned as the Regasa of Shili during the High Republic Era. In addition to her role as Regasa, Yovet held the titles of Supreme Huntress of the United Tribes and Ruler of Togrutas. Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh, seeking to strengthen ties between the Togrutas and the Galactic Republic, invited her to the Republic Fair on Valo as a gesture of amity. Furthermore, Yovet shared a long-standing friendship with Jedi Master Jora Malli.
Before the events at the Valo Republic Fair, relations between the Galactic Republic and the Togruta were strained. Jedi Master Stellan Gios characterized the Togruta homeworld of Shili as a major obstacle in Republic diplomacy. Although the Togruta and the Republic had known of each other for centuries, it wasn't until approximately 380 BBY that the Republic began exploring Togruta territory. The Togruta perceived these Republic incursions as unwelcome, leading to intermittent conflicts and persistent tensions between the two for many years.
Before her death in 232 BBY, Elarec Yovet and Jedi Master Jora Malli cultivated a friendship, marking an initial step towards improving Republic-Togruta relations. Yovet was deeply saddened by the Jedi Master's demise during the Battle of Kur. Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh, aiming to further improve relations between the Republic and the Togruta, publicly announced that she would extend a formal invitation to Yovet to attend the fair as her distinguished guest. To Soh's great pleasure, Yovet accepted.
In the time leading up to the opening of the Republic Fair on Valo, Yovet journeyed from her home world of Shili to Lonisa City on Valo. The regasa arrived aboard an unidentifiable shuttle featuring long, tapered wings and a hull that shone like polished bronzium. Accompanying Yovet were members of the Togruta Guard, led by Captain Maramis. Each guard was armed with a kiavene, a long pike equipped with disintegration capabilities and wore long tunics and face masks. Gios observed that Yovet was wearing a long, flowing robe. Her montrals were decorated with golden metalwork and a substantial chain, signifying her status as queen. Notably, Yovet wore no shoes, reflecting the Togruta's reverence for the ground beneath their feet.
Upon her arrival, Yovet was greeted by Soh and her welcoming party. Yovet made an effort to personally greet each member of the welcoming committee, including Jedi Masters Gios and Elzar Mann. During her conversation with Gios, Yovet spoke of her friendship with Malli and her sadness at the Jedi's passing. She expressed her hope to visit Malli aboard the Starlight Beacon, which Malli was intended to lead before her death. Mann quickly interjected, assuring Yovet that Jedi Master Avar Kriss would gladly welcome her aboard the Starlight Beacon. Yovet expressed her enthusiasm for the idea and her willingness to visit the space station with the Chancellor's permission. Soh, filled with delight, affirmed that it would be her pleasure to escort Yovet aboard the Starlight Beacon.
As the final preparations for the fair were underway, Yovet remained at Soh's side, enjoying the various attractions. She particularly enjoyed the airshow performed by Jedi Vectors prior to the opening ceremony. During her speech at the opening ceremony, Soh specifically acknowledged Yovet and the Togruta as friends of the Republic, a gesture that Yovet visibly appreciated. As the fair progressed, Yovet herself became a major attraction. Nearly every fairgoer sought to speak with her or, at the very least, catch a glimpse of her.
During the Nihil marauders' assault on the Valo Republic Fair, Yovet and her guards were with Soh, Norel Quo, Matari, Voru, Madam Conserra, and Master Gios at the opera house. Shortly after the attack began, a repulsor tier carrying over 50 people collapsed outside the opera house, injuring numerous fair attendees. Despite the extreme danger, Yovet instructed all of her guards, with the exception of Maramis, to assist the injured. Gios informed the group that they needed to proceed to the Valo Jedi Temple. Although the temple was still under construction, Gios explained that the vaults beneath it were complete. He reasoned that the group would be safe from any Nihil assault if they could reach the vaults.
As the group began their journey to the Jedi temple, the Nihil deployed their war cloud over Lonisa City. The war cloud consisted of toxic gas that impaired the vision and breathing of anyone exposed without a respirator mask. To ensure the group's safety, Gios instructed everyone to huddle together so he could use the Force to keep the air around them free of the toxic gas. As the huddled group continued to shuffle towards the temple, Maramis pointed out an experimental walker that was on display at the fair. The walker and its platform appeared to be above the war cloud, which would allow the group to reach the temple safely. While Quo questioned whether Gios could safely guide the group to the walker, Yovet asserted her complete faith in the Jedi.
While en route to the walker, a Krantian female and her child ran directly into the huddled group. Quo expressed anger at the pair, demanding their immediate departure from the group. Yovet, however, immediately welcomed them and insisted on their safety. Yovet inquired about their names, and the mother identified herself as Lerahel and her child as Sarry. Despite Quo's continued insistence on removing the pair from the group, Soh sided with Yovet and assured the pair that they would keep them as safe as possible.
Upon the group's arrival at the walker, Gios instructed them to ascend the stairway and enter the vehicle. Yovet insisted that Lerahel and Sarry proceed up the stairway first, prioritizing their safety above all else. As the group hurried up the stairway, a group of Nihil attackers ambushed them. Gios, Maramis, Matari, and Voru prepared to defend the group. Maramis and the targons launched their attack, while Gios, adhering to the Jedi principle of defense only, remained behind at the walker. A Trandoshan member of the Nihil soon ambushed him. In an attempt to incapacitate the Trandoshan, Gios used a Force push to send the marauder into the stairway. Although this action incapacitated the attacker, it caused the stairway to collapse.
While Yovet, Conserra, Lerahel, and Sarry had already entered the walker, Soh and Quo were not so fortunate. Quo fell to the ground, suffering severe injuries. Soh clung to the ledge of the walker, struggling to maintain her grip. Yovet immediately lunged for Soh, attempting to grab her hand before the Chancellor fell. She was a fraction of a second too late, and Soh began to fall. However, Gios used the Force to keep the Chancellor suspended in the air long enough for Yovet to grab her. The rest of the group inside the walker immediately rushed to assist Yovet and Soh, doing everything they could to pull Soh to safety.
After considerable effort, the group finally pulled Soh aboard the walker, and Yovet informed Gios that they were all safe. Maramis, Matari, and Voru soon returned to the walker, having successfully defended the group for the time being. Using the shield from the Trandoshan, Gios and Maramis fashioned a makeshift gurney, which Gios lifted to the walker using the Force. Yovet, Soh, and the rest of the group worked together to get Quo aboard.
Once everyone was safely aboard the walker, Gios and Maramis began their ascent. Picking up the fallen stairway, the two began heading up when another group of Nihil attacked. Gios and Maramis rushed up the stairway, helped by Yovet, as they reached the top. Once the entire group was aboard the walker, Gios used the Force to push the stairway away from the walker, ensuring no Nihil could board. Soh began to operate the walker, setting a path for the Jedi temple. While Soh operated the walker, Yovet remained with the rest of the group, trying to keep everyone calm and attending to any injuries she could.
The group aboard the walker eventually made it out of Fair Park and arrived at the Unity Arc. Just as they reached the arch, Jedi Master Mikkel Sutmani's Vector crashed into a café on the streets below, brought down by a Nihil marauder. The café had been sheltering dozens of civilians attempting to shelter themselves from the Nihil attackers, none of whom had time to evacuate the building before it came crashing down. Yovet immediately insisted the group help the survivors and tend to their wounds. Soh agreed and lowered their walker to the ground. The second the walker touched the ground, Yovet and Soh rushed to the collapsed building, searching for survivors.
While the rest of the group joined the regasa and Chancellor, Nihil Tempest Runner Pan Eyta initiated the final phase of the Nihil attack as hundreds of bombs were dropped on the city. Even with bombs raining around her, Yovet insisted the group stay and help the victims. Gios, however, knew he could not protect Yovet or Soh from the bombs while they were on the ground and ordered the group to return to the walker. The group members carried any survivors they could, but Yovet was devastated they had to leave so many behind.
As the group began boarding the walker, Gios senses another Nihil attack heading their way. Gios left the group under the protection of Maramis while the Jedi stayed behind to protect the wounded. Tempest Runner Lourna Dee, along with three other Nihil marauders, attacked Gios. Dee eventually pushed past him and headed for the walker, intent on killing Soh. Using a grappling hook, Dee began to repel up towards the walker. However, Jedi Mann arrived at the walker and severed Dee's ascension cable, dropping her to the ground. A bomb was then dropped between the walker and Gios, downing the walker and injuring Soh along with dozens of other survivors. As the battle ended, Yovet, the Togruta Guard, and the Togruta reinforcements aided as many wounded as possible.
With the Nihil forces driven from the system, the battle concluded. The Togruta fleet, alerted to the attack on Valo by reporter Rhil Dairo's distress call, swiftly recovered Yovet and returned her to Shili. During this period, the Togruta fleet and government terminated all communications with the Republic. However, while Soh was recuperating in the medical bay of the Valo Jedi temple, Yovet contacted her personally.
Yovet assured Soh that she harbored no animosity towards the Republic and reassured Soh that the attack on the fair was not the Chancellor's fault. Yovet also praised Gios, who was visiting Soh in the infirmary, and the other Jedi for their defense of the people of Lonisa City. Yovet then revealed to Soh that the Nihil attack had altered her perspective on a Togruta alliance with the Republic. Through the events that transpired, Yovet came to the realization that both parties would have a better chance at surviving future attacks by standing together. Yovet formally extended an offer of a Togruta alliance with the Republic, which Soh eagerly accepted.
Yovet explained that the coalition would take some time to implement, as she anticipated strong criticism from her government officials. Nevertheless, Yovet was determined to make the alliance a reality. Finally, Yovet provided Soh with a data package that Togruta Intelligence officials had intercepted from the Nihil. The package contained information that enabled Gios and the Republic fleet to lure the Nihil into a trap and expose their base.
Elarec Yovet possessed striking beauty, captivating many who encountered her. She was deeply traditional, addressing Jedi as 'Lords,' and possessed extensive knowledge. Yovet immediately recognized the raiment worn by Gios upon their meeting, understanding that it denoted his rank within the Jedi Order. She also possessed knowledge of the Force and the immense will and effort required for Jedi to wield it. Above all, Yovet was compassionate and selfless. She prioritized the health and safety of others above her own, much to the concern of her Togruta guard. Throughout the Valo Republic Fair attack, Yovet willingly placed herself in perilous situations to aid any wounded she encountered.
Elarec Yovet made an appearance in the novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, penned by Cavan Scott and released in 2021.
