Rings of Hudalla

Rings of Hudalla represented a specific kind of onion ring. This dish featured onion wrapped with pink puffer pig bacon, then coated in a sugar and spice mix that would caramelize during baking. The name of these rings came from the gas giant named Hudalla. This gas giant was orbited by some of the largest rings found in the galaxy.

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included a recipe for Rings of Hudalla in his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, during the year 34 ABY. Within the cookbook, he suggested that they could be served as a side dish to a sandwich and were better than typical breaded onion rings.

Behind the scenes

The recipe for Rings of Hudalla was originally created for the real-world cookbook titled Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. The authors of the cookbook were Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel. The recipe was released as a preview on StarWars.com on August 23, before the book's official release date of November 5, 2019.

The out-of-universe recipe calls for two large yellow onions, peeled and sliced into discs. It also requires two tablespoons of hot sauce, one cup of brown sugar, half a teaspoon of garam masala, and one pound of sliced bacon.
