Saadoon-Kauldi's criminal empire

After his liberation from slavery, Saadoon-Kauldi, a Kadri'Ra, established his own extensive criminal network. He solidified his influence by forming alliances with other prominent crime lords, such as Abdi-Badawzi, and through the unwavering loyalty of numerous freed slaves who pledged their allegiance to Saadoon-Kauldi following their emancipation.

History

Once a slave and a member of the Kadri'Ra species, Saadoon-Kauldi gained his freedom courtesy of the Badawzi family, a group of merchants. He served them for several years, witnessing the respect afforded to indentured servants. Inspired, he chose to break away and forge his own criminal enterprise.

Possessing both culture and cunning, Saadoon-Kauldi leveraged his inherent abilities to seize control of existing spice trafficking routes, clandestine shadowports, and spice processing operations. He recruited numerous smugglers, rapidly ascending to the position of a respected crime lord, earning the esteem of his Hutt counterparts. His organization boasted at least five thousand direct operatives engaged in activities such as gambling, money laundering, smuggling (including drug and arms dealing), and usury. Unconventionally, he chose to build his power base through strategic partnerships with other criminals.

During one particular smuggling operation, Saadoon-Kauldi boarded a galleon and discovered slaves being subjected to brutal treatment by their masters. Saadoon-Kauldi killed the enslavers, freeing the enslaved individuals, who then swore their unwavering loyalty and service to him. Having experienced the horrors of slavery himself, Saadoon-Kauldi vowed to treat his new servants with respect.

The Kadri'Ra initiated an extended campaign where he temporarily shifted all the resources of his burgeoning criminal empire towards liberating slaves from slaver starships. Following subsequent operations, including a rescue that freed hundreds of slaves from an Imperial garbage scow, Saadoon-Kauldi opted to discontinue his personal crusade and return to the spice trade. By this point, the vast number of emancipated ex-slaves had become Saadoon-Kauldi's largest and most devoted support base.

As a consequence of this campaign, a slaver guild pressured the Empire into placing a bounty on Saadoon-Kauldi's head, leading to numerous assassination attempts. The Empire also made attempts to re-enslave him, causing the Kadri'Ra to develop paranoia.

Shortly thereafter, Abdi-Badawzi, a Twi'lek crime lord who controlled the Socorro system, contacted Saadoon-Kauldi. Abdi-Badawzi sought a partnership to expand his territory into regions where the Kadri'Ra could provide protection. Saadoon-Kauldi formed an alliance with Abdi-Badawzi and his various organizations, including Ethra Brewery and the Caelli-Merced Syndicate. He relocated to Socorro and also allied himself with the Black Bha'lir, who operated from orbit around Neftali. In time, Saadoon-Kauldi's criminal empire began to regularly supply weapons to the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Around 10 BBY, Saadoon-Kauldi's criminal organization had a minor incident when Saylor Marjan fell into debt with the Kadri'Ra. Saadoon-Kauldi dispatched Toob Ancher and Fahs Oxsor to collect the debt, but the situation escalated.

Approximately 1 ABY, Saadoon-Kauldi's criminal empire attempted to recruit Drake Paulsen, a promising young pirate who was also being courted by other factions. Paulsen eventually joined the Bha'lir. At that point, the organization's primary criminal activities included credit laundering, gambling, the illegal sale and distribution of controlled substances, loansharking, and smuggling, including the trafficking of arms.
