The Salvation, a Nebulon-B frigate, fought under the banner of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. It was among the initial starships to join the growing Alliance Fleet. Originally belonging to the Galactic Empire, this frigate's service in the Imperial Navy ended with its capture at the Skirmish over Ylesia. At its commissioning as the Alliance's flagship, Mon Mothma, a former Imperial senator who became a Rebel fugitive, named the frigate Salvation to represent the rebel cause's importance and their desperate fight against the Empire.
The Salvation was a sizable frigate capable of housing multiple squadrons of Y-wings, Z-95 Headhunters and R-22 Spearheads. It possessed various defensive systems like force fields, defensive cannons, and turbolaser batteries. Furthermore, the ship was outfitted with a Fusion Accelerator cannon.
The Salvation was initially tested against Imperial forces at Cato Neimoidia under the command of Juno Eclipse, a one-time Imperial Captain and pilot of the Rogue Shadow. While Captain Eclipse succeeded in her mission to assess the ship and crew in combat, the Empire's superior military strength and numbers compelled the Salvation to retreat, largely because the Alliance could not afford to lose its few ships at that time.

When Jedi General Rahm Kota and the conflicted Starkiller reached the Alliance Fleet's hidden location in the Itani Nebula, the Salvation came under attack and was boarded by Vader's experimental elite forces led by the bounty hunter Boba Fett. The ship's crew was completely surprised and could not stop Fett and his troopers from breaching the bridge and capturing Captain Eclipse. After Slave I successfully escaped with Fett and his prisoner, the Alliance Fleet, with General Kota in command of the Salvation, pursued the bounty hunter to Kamino. The ship's infrastructure suffered extensive damage from a Terror Walker.

Upon the arrival of The Salvation and the other Rebel vessels at Kamino, The Salvation was attacked by numerous boarding parties. Starkiller was compelled to eliminate all the Imperial troopers who had infiltrated the ship's hangar. The ship's condition worsened continuously, with four decks lost due to the damage it sustained. Its main cannon was rendered inoperable by a shot from an approaching Star Destroyer, but Starkiller countered by charging the cannon with Force lightning and firing a shot that bisected the Destroyer.

Later in the battle, Kota instructed the remaining crew to abandon ship so that Starkiller could pilot the Salvation directly into the planet to destroy its shields. The Salvation breached the shields easily, and despite the Imperial garrison's attempts to destroy it before it crashed into the city, the Salvation impacted directly into the shield generator, destroying it and much of the Timira City Cloning Facility. Starkiller destroyed the major debris fragments to prevent harm to Juno. With Kamino's defense grid destroyed by the Salvation's sacrifice, Rebel forces invaded Kamino and, despite suffering many losses, the Alliance succeeded in winning the battle while Starkiller defeated Darth Vader himself.
In the Wii version of The Force Unleashed II, the Salvation is portrayed as an Assault Frigate Mark I. The ship's destruction is also shown differently: Starkiller does not fall beside the ship; instead, he rides it into the planetary shield generator and unleashes a powerful force repulse that destroys the vessel. However, Starkiller did not destroy the entire ship, as he later used the remaining hull as a bridge between Timira City's hangar dock and the main cloning facility. Starkiller also had to prevent several Incinerator war droids from destroying the ship's communication arrays.
The Salvation is shown to be significantly larger than other Nebulon-B frigates in Star Wars media. In the game footage, the Rogue Shadow appears infinitesimally smaller than the Salvation as it crosses its connecting spar, even though the Rogue Shadow, at 65 meters in length, is almost one-fifth the length of the 300-meter Nebulon-B.
