Sergeant Samels was a combatant for the New Republic during the era of the Galactic Civil War. He was a member of a squad that included Kinalos and Varshin.
Following the Second Battle of Coruscant which took place in 10 ABY, the Galactic Empire managed to retake their old capital. However, internal conflicts and arguments about who should be the next Galactic Emperor quickly caused the Empire to descend into factional conflict. A large portion of the planet was destroyed. After Operation Shadow Hand resulted in the New Republic retaking Coruscant, Samels and the New Republic Army were sent in to eliminate the remaining Imperial presence. Samels' squad engaged in combat throughout numerous structures, including the ruined home of his fellow squad member Kinalos, a fact unknown to Samels at the time.
