Varshin was a combatant in the Galactic Civil War, fighting as a soldier for the New Republic. He served in a squad alongside Kinalos and Sergeant Samels.
Following the Second Battle of Coruscant which occurred in 10 ABY, the Galactic Empire managed to retake their previous seat of power. However, internal conflicts and arguments about who should become the next Galactic Emperor led to intense infighting. Large portions of the world were destroyed. After Operation Shadow Hand concluded with the New Republic regaining control of Coruscant, Varshin was sent in with the New Republic Army to eliminate the remaining Imperial resistance. Wielding a DLT-20A blaster rifle, Varshin engaged in combat throughout several structures, including the ruined home that belonged to his squadmate Kinalos, though Varshin did not know this at the time.
