Sand slum pirates

The sand slum pirates were a band of pirates who operated on the desert planet of Tatooine during the era of the Galactic Civil War.

History

Following the Battle of Yavin, these pirates became a nuisance to a pair of farmers, Roric and Helen Goldenfield, who resided on a ranch situated close to the pirates' base. In the year 1 ABY, Roric Goldenfield successfully captured a number of the pirates while they were in the process of raiding the ranch, subsequently holding them as prisoners within his home. Simultaneously, an adventurer launched an assault on the pirates at their base of operations. Despite this, the spacer chose to spare the life of the pirate leader after the leader surrendered. The pirate leader then gave the spacer the task of going to the ranch and liberating the captured pirates. However, the spacer instead helped Helen Goldenfield to ensure that the pirates would not escape, while her husband contacted Imperial authorities.

Behind the scenes

The sand slum pirates made their debut in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game created by Sony Online Entertainment and distributed by LucasArts, before its servers were shut down on December 15, 2011. The sand slum pirates, along with their base, were integrated into the game as part of the revised version of the "Hero of Tatooine" questline, which was introduced through "Publish 25", also known as the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.

Players who chose the "Honor" path of the "Hero of Tatooine" quest were required to battle the sand slum pirates within their base and ultimately defeat their leader. This iteration of the quest was considerably easier than the original, which involved players locating and defeating a generic "pirate leader" who appeared randomly across Tatooine. However, following the release of "Publish 25", several bugs plagued the new pirate leader, making it impossible to complete the quest until the release of the "Chapter 2.7" update on September 6, 2006.
