Positioned on the Outer Rim planet of Batuu, the business of Savi & Son Salvage was primarily based in and around Black Spire Outpost. While Savi and his team did indeed trade in reclaimed metal and components extracted from destroyed starships at the junkyard bordering the outpost, they were also a collective of individuals with a deep respect for the Jedi and faith in the Force, known as the Gatherers. The majority of the local population simply knew them as "scrappers." The Gatherers meticulously examined the recovered items from the starships, seeking out potential artifacts of significance, which were then presented to Savi for assessment. Should he deem them to be historically significant artifacts, they were safeguarded and preserved instead of being sold. Savi's Workshop, located in the outpost's Land Port, outwardly served as the company's main office and repair shop, but secretly concealed a hidden chamber where the Gatherers educated visitors about the Jedi Order.
By 34 ABY, Savi had been running the business for several decades, although Eloc Throno, the author of the book Traveler's Guide to Batuu, noted that despite his frequent visits to Batuu over many years, he had never actually encountered the "son" referenced in the company's name. Throno also mentioned that the company's motto was, "We'll take your (s)crap."
In the year 34 ABY, the Gatherers extended their help to like-minded individuals, enabling them to craft their own unique lightsabers within Savi's Workshop. The true purpose of this location was kept concealed due to the First Order forces occupying Batuu, who disapproved of the group's beliefs.
Savi & Son Salvage is an integral part of the narrative foundation for Disney Parks' Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Savi's Workshop functions as a retail outlet where visitors can schedule appointments to build their own lightsabers, while the junkyard is symbolized by a clearly marked archway situated elsewhere within the themed park area. The book titled Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu provides further clarification that Savi's salvage operation is a legitimate business, in addition to its clandestine activities.
Although most printed materials refer to it as "Savi and Son Salvage," the book Galaxy's Edge: Black Spire mistakenly identifies it as "Savi and Sons Salvage."
