Second-wave

Homes of the Jelucan settlers who arrived in the second wave

Second-wave was a designation employed by the initial inhabitants of the planet Jelucan to refer to those who colonized the world three and a half centuries following the initial wave of settlement.

Description

The second-wavers, a group that established themselves on the planet Jelucan, were largely composed of affluent aristocrats. Until the Galactic Empire's arrival, they wielded the majority of the power on the planet. The First Wavers, the original settlers of the world, were regarded as unrefined and primitive by the second-wavers. Conversely, the initial settlers viewed the second-wavers as avaricious and treacherous.

History

Roughly 500 years preceding the planet Jelucan's absorption into the Galactic Empire, a small contingent of settlers landed on the planet, seeking refuge from an oppressive king. A second wave of settlers then arrived 350 years later, with the ambition of launching mining operations there. These 'second-wavers' thrived, while the original settlers remained impoverished. This economic imbalance fostered division and prejudice between the two factions.

Dalven Kyrell, the elder sibling of Thane Kyrell, expressed his disapproval of his brother's friendship with Ciena Ree, a First Wave girl. Dalven remarked to Thane that there was "only one reason" to associate with a girl from the valleys (the First Wavers' habitat)—and if that was Thane's intention, he should find one who was already developed. This offensive remark prompted the younger Kyrell to physically assault his brother for insulting his friend.
