A clandestine research facility was the property of scientist Derg Prantis on the planet of Lok during the era of the Galactic Civil War.

Around the time of the Battle of Yavin, the Tatooinian biologist, Derg Prantis, managed to acquire a sample of the terrifying Blackwing virus from an Imperial scientist. The Empire had secretly enlisted a group of scientists on the planet Dathomir with the intention of transforming the virus into a bioweapon. Consequently, Prantis constructed a secret laboratory on the isolated planet Lok to independently investigate the virus, aiming to develop a super soldier serum.
Derg Prantis was soon double-crossed by his laboratory assistant, Bera Jeza, who made contact with the Hutt Crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure to offer the super soldier drug for sale. Upon discovering this treachery, the scientist implored his longtime associate Cale Herron to assist in evacuating his secret lab and destroying any incriminating evidence. However, before Herron could intervene, the lab suffered a brutal assault, resulting in the assassination of the entire staff. Prantis eventually made his way back to Tatooine.

During 1 ABY, Derg Prantis met his end via assassination at the Mos Eisley Biolab. A spacer investigating the crime later crossed paths with the Zabrak slicer Cale Herron. Herron then tasked the spacer with a mission to travel to Lok and look for clues within the secret laboratory. The spacer ultimately located a puzzling datapad near the corpse of a dead Twi'lek. The investigation ultimately uncovered the Blackwing virus outbreak on Dathomir.
The Secret Laboratory was featured as a location within the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011. The Secret Laboratory was integrated into the game as part of "Game Update 13," which was released on September 30, 2009. This location formed a component of the questline titled "Something is Obviously Wrong," which served as an introduction to the "Death Troopers" update.
