The Security and Intelligence Council (SIC), alternatively called the Security Council, functioned as a council within the Senate of the Galactic Alliance. The council's responsibilities included overseeing the operations of the Galactic Alliance Intelligence Service, offering counsel to the Chief of State regarding security issues pertaining to both the galactic realm and the government, and undertaking specific inquiries. Furthermore, with a vote passed by a majority, the Council possessed the authority to grant security forces exceptional powers, enabling them to implement extraordinary actions, such as detaining civilians without undergoing a trial. Jacen Solo made use of this authority following his commission as a colonel and the subsequent authorization for the formation of the Galactic Alliance Guard by the Council. During the Second Galactic Civil War, the role of chairman was held by Coruscant Senator G'vli G'Sil.
