The Sedesia task force represented an Imperial deployment, drawing personnel from diverse Imperial divisions. Its mission: to address the "Gray Death" epidemic, a highly lethal disease, on the planet of Sedesia. This operation was a component of the Pathogen-Based Loyalty Enhancement Program, under the direction of Dr. Fesjo Negleem.
The Commission for the Preservation of the New Order provided the largest contingent to the task force. A substantial medical team from the Redesign Bureau of the Coalition for Improvements, led by Dr. Fesjo Negleem, was dispatched to conduct on-site research concerning the plague.
Numerous volunteers from the SAGroup were sent to distribute the antivirus to the populace. These volunteers, equipped with medpacs, hand computers, and a blaster pistol, operated from designated health stations.
To ensure security, a CompForce regiment was included. This regiment consisted of an assault battalion and a pair of infantry battalions. Due to Sedesia's harsh climate rendering repulsorlift vehicles unusable, the fourth battalion, normally equipped with repulsorlifts, was instead furnished with 88 hoverscouts and 22 wheel bikes. Out of a standard complement of 3,380 troopers, 2,560 were deployed to Sedesia.
Four vessels from the Imperial Navy were assigned to Sedesia: a single Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser, a single Strike-class medium cruiser, and a pair of Guardian-class light cruisers. The Dreadnaught and Strike cruisers each carried one squadron of TIE/LN starfighter. This represented a notably small force for a planetary occupation, given that such deployments typically involved at least a Star Destroyer. However, due to minimal resistance and widespread avoidance of the plague-stricken planet, these four ships proved sufficient for maintaining a blockade.
Approximately regiment strength, consisting of 3,000 regular Army troopers from the Imperial Army, were dispatched. They were stationed aboard the Dreadnaught-class cruiser.
A company of stormtroopers from the Stormtrooper Corps, along with a single AT-AT and two AT-STs, were deployed, all housed on the Strike cruiser.
Sedesia, a planet known for its Rebel sympathies, was suddenly struck by a devastating plague that rapidly infected the population. The Gray Death infected over ninety-nine percent of the inhabitants within the first two weeks, resulting in over 35,000 fatalities. Government, military, and Rebel resistance structures collapsed. The Empire, acting under the Pathogen-Based Loyalty Enhancement Program, established the Sedesia task force and intervened to provide aid.
The starships were positioned along the spacelanes surrounding Sedesia, establishing a blockade and enforcing a strict quarantine. The existing government and military had already been crippled by the plague, allowing the CompForce Regiment to secure a peaceful occupation upon the Empire's arrival. For the subsequent months, the CompForce regiment remained the sole military presence on the planet. Company-sized units were deployed to the most significant cities, with the capital city of Besia Osurne serving as the garrison headquarters. Four companies were stationed there: a Heavy Weapons Company equipped with light repeating blasters, an infantry company, a wheelbike company, and a hoverscout company.
Shortly after the quarantine was implemented, nearly all remaining ships departed, and merchant vessels generally avoided the plague-ridden planet. The medical unit established its headquarters in a former veterinary medicine center outside the capital, focusing on finding a cure. SAGroup volunteers then began distributing antiviral treatments to the population from health stations established in nearly every neighborhood. Most Rebel sympathizers, distrustful of the Empire, refused the cure and succumbed to the disease shortly after the outbreak. Although the garrison commander had the option to request reinforcements from the orbiting ships, it proved unnecessary. The majority of the population welcomed the Empire and accepted their assistance.
The plague outbreak resulted in the planet's isolation from the rest of the galaxy. For the next six months, the orbiting ships and stationed troops remained largely inactive. This situation changed when the Rebel Alliance took notice of the events on Sedesia. Doctor Andros Hareel from the Rebellion's medical division dispatched a team to infiltrate Sedesia. These agents attacked the research facility and disseminated information regarding the Pathogen-Based Loyalty Enhancement Program and FNA-23-B to the population.
Upon learning the truth about the Gray Death, the citizens of Sedesia took to the streets and revolted against the Imperial forces. Despite possessing superior weaponry, the CompForce and SAGroup personnel were thinly spread, outnumbered, and initially disorganized during the uprising. However, as the Imperials recognized the failure of Dr. Negleem's project, a new task force arrived and swiftly seized control of the planet through force. The Rebel agents continued their resistance, forming a guerrilla movement and conducting operations. Dr. Negleem escaped Sedesia and continued his research on other planets.
The roleplaying game adventure The Cure, initially featured in West End Games' Star Wars Adventure Journal 6, introduced this task force. It detailed the unit's composition and deployment but did not provide a specific name.
