The Senate utility tunnels, a vast system spanning 572 quadrants and two levels, were constructed far below the surface to supply both water and air to the Senate Building on Coruscant.
This system had the air ducts positioned above the water pipes, with connecting corridors enabling personnel to move between the two. Throughout the tunnels, laser-etched, interactive orientation blueprints were displayed on the walls, helping workers navigate to specific work locations and entry points.
During 24 BBY, the air ducts were selected by galactic criminal Granta Omega and the deranged scientist Jenna Zan Arbor to distribute the Zone of Self-Containment drug. This was part of a scheme to murder Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and thousands of Senators along with their key aides; however, the Jedi successfully thwarted the assassination attempt (though not without losses).
The Senate Utility Tunnels were depicted in Jedi Quest: The False Peace, a young adult novel that serves as the ninth installment in the Jedi Quest series authored by Jude Watson. This is the only time the tunnels have been featured.
