Short Round

"Short Round," alternatively called "Shorty," was a Human associate of Doctor Indiana Jones. 126 years following the emergency landing of the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon on the planet Earth, Jones and Short Round embarked on a journey to the starship's remains, hunting for the "Sasquatch," who was, in actuality, the Wookiee Chewbacca. They only came across the corpse of the Falcon's pilot, Han Solo, which led Jones to abandon their quest.

Biography

Indiana Jones and Short Round explore the Millennium Falcon.

The Human known as "Short Round," or "Shorty," was a comrade of Doctor Indiana Jones on the planet Earth. Sometime between 1942 and 1943, Short Round accompanied Jones and a guide on an expedition commissioned by a museum to a jungle in pursuit of the mythical "Sasquatch," who was, in fact, the Wookiee Chewbacca. Just before the trio reached the wreckage of the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon, which had crashed 126 years prior with Chewbacca and his deceased co-pilot Han Solo aboard, Short Round leaped across a small chasm. Jones then ascended the starship, before pulling Short Round up the vessel's entry ramp.

Short Round then questioned the nature of their current location, to which Jones responded that he had no idea and had never seen anything like it before, even in the location Atlantis. Upon discovering Solo's skeletal remains, he commented that the place felt familiar and instructed Short Round to remain close. Short Round inquired if they would continue seeking the Sasquatch, but Jones refused, stating they would leave the "monster" as part of the unknown.

Personality and traits

Short Round showed loyalty to Indiana Jones, often asking questions about their journey and the path ahead. Short Round had black hair, brown eyes, and skin with a tan complexion.

Equipment

Short Round was seen wearing a red cap with a matching red jacket over a gray shirt with light blue pants.

Behind the scenes

Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

The character of Short Round was conceived for Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, released in 1984, which was the second installment in the Indiana Jones franchise created by George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars. Ke Huy Quan, credited at the time as Jonathan Ke Quan, played Short Round, who served as the sidekick to Indiana Jones, who was played by Harrison Ford, who also played Han Solo in the Star Wars franchise. The character of Short Round was initially mentioned in a Star Wars publication in the twenty-fifth issue of the magazine Bantha Tracks, which was released in the summer of 1984 and featured an interview with Quan. Within the Indiana Jones continuity, the character's given name was revealed to be Wan Li in the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Sourcebook from 1996.

Short Round later made an appearance in the Indiana JonesStar Wars non-canon crossover story titled "Into the Great Unknown," which was written by W. Haden Blackman, illustrated by Sean Gordon Murphy, and published by Dark Horse Comics in the nineteenth issue of Star Wars Tales on May 14, 2004. In the comic, Short Round is depicted as being older than he was in Temple of Doom, which is set in 1935. Blackman later clarified that the comic would have to occur either seven or eight years after the events depicted in that film.
