Shug Ninx

Shug Ninx, a male Near-Human hailing from Corellia, ran his well-known Spacebarn on Nar Shaddaa. This massive shipyard provided a place for smugglers to fix and upgrade their ships. The Chute, a cleverly hidden tunnel, was the sole point of entry to the Spacebarn.

Biography

Ninx in 10 ABY.

Early in his career, Ninx was employed by the mechanic Bammy Decree, from whom he presumably learned his skills from the Human. While assisting Decree in the reconstruction of the Stellar Envoy, Ninx sought out Masel, a fence, who provided him with a replacement droid brain. Unbeknownst to Ninx, this was a scheme by Masel that led to the brain activating a shipment of buzz droids, ultimately causing the destruction of an Acclamator-class assault ship. Years later, when it was known as the Millennium Falcon, Ninx would contribute more work to the Envoy.

Ninx was a highly skilled mechanic himself, and he likely could have secured employment within the Galactic Empire if he weren't a "half-breed", meaning he was born to a Human and a nonhuman parent: while his father was a Corellian, his mother was among the last of the Theelin. This resulted in his mostly Human appearance, save for the blue and green patterns on his skin, and the fact that he had one thumb and two fingers on each hand. Considering the prejudices held by the Galactic Empire, he was fortunate to find work on Nar Shaddaa.

The Spacebarn, a shipyard under Ninx's ownership and management, was situated close to the Corellian Sector. He quickly became good friends with numerous smugglers, including Han Solo, Chewbacca, Salla Zend, Roa, and Mako Spince, among many others. For a period, he collaborated with a Tintinna named Kit. Ninx had only the following rules for the Spacebarn:

  • Anything could be used, as long as it was returned or the damage was paid for.
  • Payment for his or his technicians' services was expected promptly.
  • Intoxicating substances of any variety were strictly prohibited.

Ninx was quite well-liked due to his friendly nature and mechanical expertise. He played a significant role in the defensive strategies leading up to the Battle of Nar Shaddaa, assisting many smugglers in equipping their ships with upgraded weaponry and shields. After the battle and Han Solo's departure, Ninx was among the few who did not harbor any resentment towards Solo.

When Emperor Palpatine resurfaced in a clone body, Han and Leia Organa Solo came back to Nar Shaddaa and encountered Ninx, who aided in repairing the Millennium Falcon at the Spacebarn. The arrival of Boba Fett sparked violence at the Spacebarn, and during his escape, Solo inadvertently destroyed one of Ninx's prized ships. This time, when Solo departed Nar Shaddaa, Ninx was indeed left with a bitter feeling.
