Sil Sorannan

Sil Sorannan, a Human male with fiery red hair, held the rank of officer within the Imperial forces. Serving as a Major in the 6th Sector Army, also known as Black Sword Command, he found himself in the Koornacht Cluster around 4 ABY. During the Yevetha's uprising, he was taken prisoner when they seized all the Command's ships and personnel. Surviving the brutal treatment of the Yevethan Duskhan League, unlike many other captives, Sorannan devised an ingenious special system to reclaim the Imperial vessels from the Yevetha and orchestrate an escape from the Koornacht Cluster.

Biography

This Human, Sil Sorannan, began his career as a pilot assigned to a Research Section team, exploring methods of deploying bombs directly from hyperspace. He was later stationed with Black Sword Command in the Koornacht Cluster. As Imperial forces commenced their withdrawal from Koornacht in 4 ABY, approximately eight months following the Battle of Endor, the Black Fifteen shipyards on N'zoth were overwhelmed by the swift Yevethan rebellion. Sorannan was among the three hundred thousand Imperials captured and transported to a prison camp on the moon Pa'aal. There, the Yevetha compelled them to reveal the secrets of Imperial technology, including turbolasers and hyperdrives.

As time went on, Sorannan emerged as the de facto leader among his fellow Imperial prisoners, establishing a clandestine command group to plan a strike against their Yevethan captors when the opportunity arose. This plan was accelerated in 17 ABY, when the Imperial prisoners were ordered to assist in the war effort aboard the ships of the Yevethan fleet. Sorannan was assigned to the fire control center of the Super Star Destroyer Intimidator—renamed Pride of Yevetha and serving as the Duskhan League's flagship—tasked with maintaining the data server for the target registry and its electronic connections throughout the vessel.

During the Battle of N'zoth, Sorannan and his secret command utilized a pre-existing slave circuit system to seize control of the Imperial starships held by the Yevetha. From the bridge of Intimidator, Sorannan informed the New Republic that he and "Camp Pa'aal Squadron" were rejoining the Empire, after which the fleet jumped into hyperspace towards the Deep Core. While traveling to their destination, Sorannan ensured that Nil Spaar was ejected into hyperspace within an escape pod. Before the Camp Pa'aal Squadron's departure, he acknowledged the New Republic's assault with a degree of respect, surprised to witness a full-scale fleet engagement rather than the hit-and-run tactics of the Rebel Alliance. He sent a brief message to New Republic General Etahn A'baht, stating his intention to leave the Cluster and ceding jurisdiction of the situation to the New Republic. Following this, all Imperial vessels under Sorannan's control jumped out of the area.

Sorannan then oversaw the execution of the despised Yevethan viceroy Nil Spaar, who played a key role in orchestrating the Yevethan revolt that resulted in the enslavement and death of the Imperial presence on N'zoth and numerous other worlds. With the assistance of several subordinates, Sorannan forced the restrained alien into an escape pod aboard the Intimidator. Expressing his hatred for Spaar and briefly mentioning his past experience with launching bombs into hyperspace, a failed endeavor, Sorannan launched the pod and Spaar into hyperspace, wishing the viceroy a protracted death as he did so.

Personality and traits

Sil Sorannan, an Imperial officer and human male, was a resilient and courageous individual, possessing considerable technical expertise. His plan to reclaim the Imperial vessels seized by the Yevetha, restoring them to what he deemed rightful Imperial ownership, was a feat of technical brilliance. Subjected to harsh conditions under Yevethan rule for twelve years, Sorannan remained steadfast despite the deaths and suicides around him, harboring a deep-seated hatred for his captors, particularly their leader, Nil Spaar, whose cruel demise he orchestrated with satisfaction. In doing this, Sorannan described his grief at losing so many comrades, whose faces he would see for the rest of his life. Even when communicating with the New Republic commanders, whom Sorannan still viewed as the Rebel Alliance of old, he displayed respect and even admiration for their tactical advancements, which had evolved from "cowardly" guerrilla warfare to overwhelming force.

Behind the scenes

Sil Sorannan's sole appearance is in the novel Tyrant's Test by Michael P. Kube-McDowell, the third book in the Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy. He features prominently in several plot-critical scenes near the book's conclusion, ultimately responsible for the death of the trilogy's antagonist, Nil Spaar. An experimental Imperial vessel mentioned in the novels as the EX-F has since been identified as a Sorannan-class Star Destroyer in The Essential Guide to Warfare. Beyond this, Sil Sorannan has not appeared elsewhere.
