The Black Fleet Crisis

The Black Fleet Crisis, alternatively known as The Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy, is a set of three novels that take place during the years 16 and 17 ABY. The central narrative revolves around the New Republic's political turmoil and the military challenges posed by the intensely xenophobic Yevetha. Concurrently, Luke Skywalker embarks on a quest to uncover the history of his mother.

The novels comprising The Black Fleet Crisis trilogy are Before the Storm, Shield of Lies, and Tyrant's Test.

This trilogy explores military science fiction themes to a greater extent than most Star Wars novels preceding The New Jedi Order. A significant portion of each novel is dedicated to depicting fleet movements and combat, along with detailed descriptions of warships and their respective crews.

A single hardcover volume containing all three books was released by the Science Fiction Book Club in 1997.

Publisher's summary

Since overthrowing the Imperial regime a decade prior, the Yevetha have largely avoided interactions with other civilizations. Now, they have finally dispatched an emissary to meet with Princess Leia.

As the leader of the Duskhan League, Nil Spaar represents a greater number of worlds, larger fortunes, and more sophisticated technology than anyone who has visited Imperial City in the past twelve years. Leia understands that the Duskhan League would be a valuable addition to the New Republic.

However, Spaar's purpose is not to discuss joining. His species views all others as pests—and he has arrived with a far more lethal scheme in mind....

While Leia manages Spaar, a restless Luke encounters a mysterious Fallanassi woman who asserts she possesses knowledge regarding his mother. In a perilous and determined journey, he travels to the Fallanassi homeworld, where his fundamental beliefs about the application of the Force are about to be questioned.
