Sonsigo

Sonsigo, a Bravaisian individual, shared a pod with Munduri. These two worked as a team, drawn to the allure of sparkling gems and metals. They specialized in evaluating precious stones extracted from newly documented planets, providing their expertise. Should they decide to purchase any gems or metals, they offered premium compensation. Sonsigo and Munduri were both present within the walls of Maz Kanata's castle on the planet Takodana. Kanata was a pirate. It was there that Han Solo, a smuggler, arrived accompanied by Rey, a scavenger, Finn, a former stormtrooper, and BB-8, an astromech droid. Shortly after their arrival, many of the castle's inhabitants hurried outside to witness the destruction of the Hosnian system. This devastation was caused by the Starkiller Base superweapon of the First Order. Soon after, the castle itself was attacked and ultimately destroyed by the forces of the First Order. Sonsigo possessed blue skin, and due to the sensitivity of the Bravaisian's eyes, they required protective goggles during their time on Takodana.

Behind the scenes

Olly Taylor, a creature and droid performer, brought Sonsigo to life in the motion picture Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The film premiered in North America on December 18, 2015. Both Sonsigo and Munduri were operated as hand puppets. Their performers controlled them from beneath the bench where the characters were positioned. During filming, the character was only known as a "snooty pirate" and was not identified by name. However, the reference book Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, penned by Pablo Hidalgo and released alongside the film, provided the character's name.
