A gladiatorial arena, a place of combat like the gladiatorial events of old, stood on the world of Soruus, a planet. Within this arena, many gladiators met their died in combat. Dominating the arena was a massive statue of the Tionese Despot Xim, gripping a heatbeam, which loomed over the combatants. This statue, constructed from polysteel in a Centares factory, came into being during the chancellorship of Kirbat the Unready. The historian Bleys Harand discussed both the arena and its statue in his work, Travels Amid Strange Stars, where he criticized the statue as a flawed representation of Xim.
The arena's initial mention occurred in 2013, specifically within the third part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut. This series of posts, found on the StarWars.com blog, presented material that had been removed from The Essential Guide to Warfare. Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart authored the post, but they did not specify the era when the arena was in use, nor when Harand visited it.
