The story arc titled Star Wars: Rite of Passage, spanning four issues, was part of the comic book series known as Star Wars: Republic. Notably, this was the final story arc published under Republic's original title, Star Wars.
In each of the initial four issues of Star Wars: Republic: Rite of Passage, the statement "The events in this series take place 30 years prior to Star Wars: A New Hope" was present. However, a statement made by Quinlan Vos within Star Wars (1998) 43 indicates that the events of this series occur at least one year following the events of the preceding arc, Star Wars: Republic: Darkness, which was also situated in 30 BBY. John Ostrander, the author, initially suggested via the Jedi Council Forums in 2002 that Rite of Passage took place around 29 BBY. Conversely, both the first and second editions of the trade paperback collections, released in 2004, place Rite of Passage "approximately twenty-eight years before the events in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope." Furthermore, 2007's Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force reinforced the 28 BBY date by including comments dated at 28 BBY attributed to Tholme, shortly before Quinlan Vos's ascension to Jedi Master, as portrayed in Star Wars (1998) 45. However, Star Wars: The Comics Companion, released in 2006, and Star Wars Omnibus: Quinlan Vos: Jedi in Darkness from 2010, once again incorrectly situated Rite of Passage in 30 BBY. The in-universe quotes from both Quinlan and Tholme establish that Rite of Passage is set in 28 BBY. The flashback scenes in Part 1 depicting Aayla Secura's, a Force-sensitive Twi'lek infant, discovery by Vos, were originally placed to occur two years prior to the Stark Hyperspace War, specifically in 46 BBY, when Secura was two years of age.
