The series of novels titled Star Wars: X-Wing falls under the Star Wars Legends banner and was penned by Michael A. Stackpole alongside Aaron Allston. These ten novels, released between 1996 and 2012, were brought to the public by Bantam Spectra and Del Rey.
- X-Wing: Rogue Squadron (January 1996)
- X-Wing: Wedge's Gamble (May 2, 1996)
- X-Wing: The Krytos Trap (September 1996)
- X-Wing: The Bacta War (January 1997)
- X-Wing: Wraith Squadron (February 2, 1998)
- X-Wing: Iron Fist (July 6, 1998)
- X-Wing: Solo Command (February 2, 1999)
- X-Wing: Isard's Revenge (April 13, 1999)
- X-Wing: Starfighters of Adumar (August 3, 1999)
- X-Wing: Mercy Kill (August 7, 2012)
The concept behind the Star Wars: X-Wing series was to blend "Star Wars" with the essence of Top Gun. Michael A. Stackpole's initial quartet of books chronicles the New Republic's efforts aimed at retakeing Coruscant, the Imperial capital, alongside Ysanne Isard's strategies to undermine the New Republic.
Aaron Allston's subsequent trilogy details the New Republic's fight against the Imperial warlord known as Zsinj. The events unfolding in this trilogy directly set the stage for The Courtship of Princess Leia.
The following three novels function as independent narratives. Isard's Revenge occurs concurrently with the conclusion of The Last Command, depicting the struggle between the New Republic and the Ciutric Hegemony. Distinct from prior entries, it shares numerous connections with the Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron comic series, serving as a de facto epilogue to elements of that series' storyline.
Starfighters of Adumar presents a completely self-contained story. It portrays a New Republic endeavor to the neutral planet of Adumar, aiming to facilitate its integration into the New Republic.
Mercy Kill unfolds more than three decades after the preceding books, introducing both familiar and fresh characters. It marks a return to Wraith Squadron, with the team probing into a case involving a dishonest general.
