The Hunt for Aurra Sing, Part 1, a comic book, represents the twenty-eighth installment within the Star Wars: Republic comic series. Dark Horse Comics released it to the public on March 28, 2001.
Prepare yourself for intense lightsaber combat! Aurra Sing makes her presence known on Coruscant by callously murdering Jedi within close proximity to the Jedi Temple. Consequently, the Jedi Council is tasked with determining the appropriate course of action concerning this notorious bounty hunter. Numerous Jedi Knights eagerly offer their services to ensure Sing faces justice. However, their motivations are questionable - are they truly seeking justice, or are they driven by a desire for revenge? Overcoming an assassin renowned for eliminating Jedi will require more than mere personal animosity.
Jedi Masters Peerce, J'Mikel, accompanied by J'Mikel's apprentice, Xiaan Amersu, are scouring the streets of Coruscant in pursuit of the bounty hunter Aurra Sing. Aurra is wanted in connection with the deaths of numerous Jedi. Instead of finding her, they discover the mutilated remains of four Republic Peace Officers. Aurra Sing lies in wait, concealed in the shadows, ready to attack. She emerges and swiftly eliminates Peerce and J'Mikel using her red lightsabers. However, before his demise, J'Mikel manages to inflict a burn across Aurra's face with a final, fortunate strike. Aurra spares the life of young Xiaan due to her youth, but vows to kill her once she matures into a fully trained Jedi.
Xiaan returns to the Jedi Temple and reports the events to the council. Mace Windu is now faced with the decision of selecting the Jedi best suited to lead the mission to apprehend Aurra Sing. A'Sharad Hett puts himself forward for the assignment, but Mace believes that his history with Aurra Sing, fueled by vengeance, would cause too much conflict. The Jedi known as the Dark Woman then enters the chamber and also volunteers to lead the mission. However, Mace is concerned that the Dark Woman's judgment may be clouded, given that Aurra was once her Padawan. After careful consideration, it is determined that Ki-Adi-Mundi, A'Sharad Hett, and Adi Gallia will jointly lead the mission to capture Aurra Sing.
