Starcrash, a part of the Star Wars: Republic comics collection, marks the twenty-seventh installment. Dark Horse Comics released it to the public on February 28, 2001.
This particular issue introduces us to Jedi Yoshi Raph-Elan. As Yoshi travels to a Jedi gathering, an unknown adversary ambushes him. Left stranded and without his lightsaber, he is compelled to discover the motives behind this new menace. Along his journey, he encounters the lovely princess Lourdes, and gains insight into the importance of heeding ancient prophecies. This story is a collaborative effort brought to you by Doug Petrie (Buffy: Ring of Fire and writer for the Buffy TVS TV series), Randy Green (Witchblade), and Andy Owens (Buffy and Angel).
While en route, Jedi Yoshi Raph-Elan, recently Knighted, is attacked by mysterious opponents. After one of the enemy ships strikes his vessel, crippling it and forcing him to crash-land on a nearby planet, Yoshi assesses the damage. Finding his ship beyond repair and his lightsaber destroyed, Yoshi sets out toward a nearby village. Upon reaching the village, Yoshi witnesses a battle-droid about to shoot a small child. After rescuing the child and eliminating the droid, he embarks on a quest to find the droid's commander, leading him to a large castle. Attempting to infiltrate the castle, Yoshi is discovered by Princess Lourdes, who is betrothed to the droids' master, Lord Gar-Oth. The princess invites Yoshi to a reception for Lord Gar-Oth, hoping he will aid her against the conqueror. However, when Gar-Oth announces his immediate intention to marry Lourdes, Yoshi fabricates a story, claiming to be her husband. Gar-Oth attacks him, but upon realizing he is a Jedi, he reveals his massive Goliath droid, which he commands to attack Yoshi. After the princess eliminates Gar-Oth, Yoshi manages to utilize the giant droid's internal components to repair his lightsaber, subsequently destroying the droid. Later on, a republic vessel arrives to rescue the young Jedi, but not before Lourdes kisses Yoshi, urging him to return to her.
Within the comic, the dialogue of several alien characters was presented as a disorganized collection of Greek letters.
