Several noteworthy alterations set this volume apart from the cinematic version. A completely original sequence depicting a Mon Calamari flagship enduring heavy fire from a Star Destroyer's laser batteries was incorporated into the manga. This new scene transitions directly into the sequence featuring Grizz Frix crashing his fighter into a Star Destroyer, a scene present in the film but given greater emphasis in the manga.

Numerous other distinctions between the manga and the film arise from the manga's inherent artistic style. Examples include Han Solo repeatedly stomping on an unarmed scout trooper, and scenes being inverted to facilitate easier comprehension for Western audiences (the most prominent example being the positioning of the Millennium Falcon's cockpit).

While infrequent, certain scenes from the movie are either omitted or condensed. This is an expected consequence of the chosen medium of expression.
