The Stellar Vista served as a Mon Calamari star cruiser during the time of the Galactic Empire. In the year 14 BBY, while operating as a high-end passenger ship, the cruiser was forcibly removed from hyperspace due to orders given by Imperial Moff Wilhuff Tarkin. Tarkin's objective was to reclaim his personal starship, the Carrion Spike, which had been seized by rebellious groups. This event is known as the ship being pulled out.
During the Imperial Era, the Stellar Vista functioned as a Mon Calamari star cruiser that was designed for use as a lavish passenger transport. The star cruiser possessed an organically sculpted form, giving the impression that it had grown naturally rather than being manufactured in a traditional manner. This vessel could accommodate approximately ten thousand individuals and was equipped with numerous lifeboats and spherical escape pods to ensure their safety.
While en route from the celestial body Corsin in 14 BBY with about ten thousand passengers on board, the Stellar Vista was among several ships pulled out of hyperspace in the Obroa-skai system. This was orchestrated by an Imperial flotilla under the command of Moff Wilhuff Tarkin. He had initiated the hyperspace disruption as part of his mission to recover his personal corvette, named the Carrion Spike, which had been taken by members of a rebel cell. Consequently, the Stellar Vista, lacking the ability to steer or ascertain its location, collided with the flotilla's Detainer CC-2200 interdictor. The sharp front of the Imperial ship penetrated the upper surface of the passenger liner, resulting in significant damage and prompting the evacuation of the ship via its lifeboats and escape pods. Imperial personnel promptly provided Tarkin with information regarding the ship. The captain urgently requested assistance from the Imperial ships in the vicinity, which a specialist also informed Tarkin about.
Following the impact, the entire rear section of the Stellar Vista was obliterated. As other ships that had been removed from hyperspace attempted to escape, Tarkin instructed his vessel, the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Executrix, to open fire on the Truant, a ship suspected of smuggling weapons. Despite the fact that Imperial gunners were unable to secure a clear shot due to the presence of other ships, including lifeboats from the Stellar Vista, Tarkin insisted on the destruction of the Truant. The gunners successfully carried out the order but were unable to prevent civilian casualties. Approximately 1,100 individuals died, and the remains of the Stellar Vista were transported to the planet Obroa-skai for repair work. Afterwards, holovids documenting the event, recorded by passengers on board, spread rapidly across the HoloNet.
The Stellar Vista made its initial appearance in Tarkin, a novel penned by James Luceno in 2014.
