Stend system

The Stend system, situated within the Outer Rim Territories' Juris sector, encompassed the planets known as Stend IV and Stend VI. The former was characterized by a tropical jungle environment, featuring multiple oceans across its surface and a population with a relatively underdeveloped technology level. Conversely, the latter was a temperate world composed of mountains, plains, and urban zones, functioning as a key manufacturing and processing hub for the Galactic Empire.

Not long after the Battle of Naboo, a collection of individuals, contracted by the anti-technology eco-terrorist organization called the Army of Life, journeyed to the Stend system aboard the freighter named Majestic Gundark. Following an intense skirmish on Stend IV against several groups trying to prevent them, the group ultimately achieved its objective: the release of a shipment of eggs belonging to the extremely invasive clodhopper species into the planet's ecosystem. During the reign of the Empire, several swoop gangs emerged on Stend VI, resulting in frequent conflicts in the planet's skies. However, the original local gang, the Skulls, eventually relocated to the Hook Nebula.

Description

As a component of the Outer Rim Territories' Juris sector, the Stend system was located along the hyperlane referred to as the Five Veils Route, which provided a connection to both the Ninzam and Vergesso systems.

The fourth orbital position within the system was occupied by the tropical planet known as Stend IV. Its surface featured at least one [jungle](/article/jungle-legends]-covered landmass, along with several oceans. White clouds in the atmosphere frequently obscured much of the planetary surface when viewed from space.

The terrestrial planet Stend VI was situated in the sixth orbit of the system. It had an orbital period of 230 local days, each lasting twenty-three standard hours, and was accompanied by three moons. The planet's climate was temperate, and its terrain included mountains, plains, and urban areas.

History

Decades prior to the Galactic Civil War, Gran colonists from Malastare, another colony world, established a settlement on Stend IV. Shortly after the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo concluded in 32 BBY, the anti-technology eco-terrorist group, the Army of Life, collaborated with the Humanocentric terrorist group known as the Knights of the Core. Their aim was to target a continent on Stend IV inhabited by Gran and Elomin colonists.

The Army of Life successfully carried out its plan to release eggs of the highly dangerous clodhoppers (pictured) into the environment of Stend IV.

The Army of Life engaged a team to transport four hundred stolen eggs of clodhoppersomnivorous pests famous for their destruction of entire planetary ecosystems because of their insatiable hunger and rapid reproduction rate—aboard the freighter Majestic Gundark from Naboo to the largest settlement on Stend IV, releasing them into the environment. The freighter successfully made its way to Stend IV, even though a government-appointed team pursued it to thwart the terrorist scheme.

Upon the Majestic Gundark's arrival in the Stend system, its crew did not detect any other starships within the entire system. On Stend IV's surface, the team faced both the government-recruited group and a contingent of local Gran settlers, led by Jedi Guardian Dree-Tekes, in a fierce skirmish. Despite the resistance, they ultimately succeeded in releasing the clodhopper eggs into the environment.

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, numerous swoop gangs appeared on Stend VI, leading to daily conflicts in the planet's skies. The Skulls were considered the first true gang. By 2 BBY, the Skulls had relocated to the Hook Nebula, but a new gang, known as the Razers, emerged on Stend VI and continued the Skulls' reign of terror. At some point, the Corellian scoundrel Cohden K'Reye and captain Nuendo Rash both visited The Pits, a cantina on Stend VI.

Inhabitants

By the time the Invasion of Naboo was defeated, Gran settlers had established a colony on Stend IV. The colony world's level of technology was low. A continent on Stend IV was also inhabited by Elomin colonists.

Stend VI had a population of 2.2 billion, primarily Humans. The inhabitants of this Outer Rim world were governed by a representative democracy allied with the Galactic Empire, where the planet functioned as a manufacturing and processing site. Stend VI's society possessed space-level technology and maintained an Imperial-class starport. The planet exported consumer goods to other worlds while importing foodstuffs from elsewhere.

Locations

The Pits on Stend VI

Stend IV had only a few scattered settlements, with Gev-Toosa being the only one large enough to be considered a town. It lacked a spaceport, relying instead on an automated signal that directed new arrivals to land outside the town and proceed on foot.

A notable location on Stend VI was The Pits, a swoop racer bar. It was owned by Blizz Pinnix, a legendary swoop racer, while Kaylo NaKuda, a Herglic businessman, oversaw the day-to-day operations. NaKuda also owned Kuda's Compound, the adjacent vehicle repair garage and dealership. Unbeknownst to Pinnix, Kuda's Compound primarily sold stolen vehicles and parts and was staffed by slaves, including Sil Vaturha, a Twi'lek orphan who potentially possessed some of the greatest technological skills of the inhabitants of the Juris and neighboring sectors.

Behind the scenes

Illustrations of Stend VI's night skies in Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy, a 1997 sourcebook by Paul Danner for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, provided the first depiction of the Stend system. The system's first formal appearance and the introduction of its name occurred in "Operation: Clodhopper," a roleplaying mini-adventure written by Cory J. Herndon and published on Wizards.com on February 22, 2001 for use with the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The reference book The Essential Atlas from 2009 placed the Stend system in grid square P-17.
