Stolak Vandello, a criminal belonging to the Balosar species and identified as male, once held membership in the Black Sun organization. On their shared homeworld of Balosar, he encountered and developed feelings for another Balosar named R'Tess. Sometime within the New Republic Era, Vandello acquired a sum of credits from Black Sun with the intention of escaping Balosar and providing R'Tess with a more desirable existence, free from its environmental contamination. Subsequently, the pair journeyed to the Star Cruiser Halcyon, aspiring to observe the sungrazer-comet, a celestial event R'Tess had envisioned in her dream, as it impacted the star known as Daca. Ultimately, T'onga's crew, a group of bounty hunters, were dispatched by Black Sun with orders to apprehend or kill Vandello. Vandello ultimately gave himself up to the bounty hunters; however, he was granted the opportunity to observe the comet's collision alongside his beloved before being taken into custody by T'onga's crew for Black Sun. Following his capture, R'Tess discovered that Vandello had prepaid for their accommodation, a room on the Halcyon, for a duration extending up to a century.
