The Halcyon was a passenger star cruiser of the MPO-1400 Purgill-class, a Corellian design, and it was operated by the Chandrila Star Line company.

As a passenger liner, the Halcyon was under the ownership of Chandrila Star Line. Constructed by the Corellian Engineering Corporation as an MPO-1400 model, within the Purrgil-class starcruiser family, the Halcyon held a reputation as the cruise liner company's prized possession.
The Halcyon utilized 13 engine units for propulsion, and it also featured a ventral hanger bay, similar to those found on the Galactic Empire's well-known Star Destroyer line. The vessel incorporated a pair of docking rings on both the port and starboard sides of its spine, in addition to two on each side of its bow, which were designated as Launch Pod Docks. These docks, equipped with airlocks, accommodated passengers from multiple Launch Pods arriving from a planet-based terminal, as they met with the Star Cruiser. Another set of docks, known as Transport Docks, were reserved for transport shuttles docking with the starship. In 34 ABY, transport shuttles from the Batuu Transport Company provided service to passengers aboard the Halcyon, ferrying individuals to the Batuu location of Black Spire Outpost during scheduled excursion times.

Commissioning of the ship occurred in 241 BBY. Shug Drabor oversaw its construction at the Santhe Shipyards located in Coronet City on Corellia. Its first journey was to Batuu. Within a decade of service, Nib Assek and her Padawan Burry rescued the ship from Nihil pirates. The ship's Lightsaber Training Pod was constructed to honor them.
In 230 BBY, the Halcyon aided in towing Starlight Beacon through hyperspace to assist in the Dalnan evacuation.
During the period of the Clone Wars, the ship became the location of a skirmish involving agents of the Republic and the Separatist factions. Jedi General Anakin Skywalker engaged Dark Acolyte Asajj Ventress in a lightsaber duel.
After its formation, the Galactic Empire took control of the ship, removing much of its luxurious decor, and repurposed it as a recreational space for Imperial officers.
During the age of the New Republic, the Halcyon underwent restoration to its original design.

By the time of the Battle of Batuu, Captain Riyola Keevan was in command of the ship, and a notice in Oga's Cantina at Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu advertised an opening for a mechanic aboard the starship, instructing applicants to contact Keevan. The job posting specified that applicants should have experience working on MPO-1400s and that Shyriiwook fluency would be an asset.

The Halcyon serves as the setting for the immersive Disney hotel experience known as Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser at the Walt Disney World Resort. It was initially unveiled at the D23 Expo in 2019. Christian Alzmann was its designer. The starcruiser made its debut appearance in the 2022 junior novel The High Republic: Mission to Disaster, authored by Justina Ireland.
