A stone circle consisted of sizable stone pieces arranged in an approximate circular pattern. These formations were scattered across the various continents of Lothal, a planet situated within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. During the era of the Galactic Republic, numerous archaeologists journeyed to Lothal, meticulously examining the stone circles, driven by a desire to understand their beginnings and function. Some posited that the stone arrangements were relatively recent, suggesting early Lothal colonists assembled them as a landing zone, an alternative to electronic signals. Conversely, others hypothesized that these stone circles provided evidence of a ritualistic civilization that existed on Lothal millennia before Republic scouts made their discovery of the planet. All investigations into the riddle of Lothal's stone circles came to a halt when the Galactic Republic fell and was replaced by the Galactic Empire, which held the belief that ancient, superstitious mysteries had no place in the New Order. Cikatro Vizago, a Devaronian crime lord, utilized one such stone circle as a meeting point for his criminal organization, the Broken Horn Syndicate. Later, the same stone circle served as a base for the Lothal resistance group.
