A strike-vulture represented a species of vulture that Asajj Ventress, the Force-sensitive Dathomirian, thought to be the sole birds inhabiting the planet of Rattatak. These creatures were notorious for completely cleaning bones within the dusty plains of that world.
In the year 23 BBY, following her liberation from the criminal Osika Kirske by Count Dooku and her subsequent relocation to the world Serenno, Ventress understood that she was no longer on Rattatak when she detected the songs of avian life that were distinctly not strike-vultures.
The audio drama Dooku: Jedi Lost, penned by Cavan Scott and made available on April 30, 2019, included references to strike-vultures. The official spelling of "strike-vultures" was verified through the audio drama's script release, which occurred on October 1 of that same year.
