The Superior was an Imperial-class Star Destroyer that served within the naval fleet of the Imperial Remnant. During the Yuuzhan Vong War, specifically in 28 ABY, the Superior took part in the Battle of Bastion. This battle involved the Yuuzhan Vong launching an assault on Bastion, the capital planet of the Imperial Remnant, located in the Sartinaynian system. Alongside the Chimaera Star Destroyer, the Superior engaged in combat above a gas giant within the star system. The Superior suffered extensive damage from Yuuzhan Vong starships during this engagement, ultimately resulting in its destruction as it fell into the atmosphere of the gas giant's.
Being an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, the Superior was manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards and had a length of 1,600 meters.
In the year 28 ABY, the Superior was a component of the Imperial Remnant's fleet, which controlled a section of the Outer Rim Territories. At this time, the galaxy was embroiled in the Yuuzhan Vong War, an invasion by the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong species who sought to conquer the galaxy. Although the Imperial Remnant was initially spared by the Yuuzhan Vong, in 28 ABY the invaders attacked the Sartinaynian system, which housed the Imperial capital planet of Bastion, leading to the Battle of Bastion. During this battle, after Imperial forces had to pull back from Bastion, the Superior, along with the Star Destroyer Chimaera under the command of Imperial Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, engaged a significant Yuuzhan Vong force near the moons of a gas giant within the star system.
Despite receiving support from several Imperial vessels, both the Superior and the Chimaera suffered serious damage. The overwhelming Yuuzhan Vong forces prevented the two Star Destroyers from reaching Yaga Minor, where the Imperial Remnant was regrouping. With its hull riddled with holes and engulfed in flames, Pellaeon gave the order to abandon the warship. A medical frigate then evacuated the survivors of the Superior to safety. During its voyage to Yaga Minor, the frigate managed to escape the Sartinaynian system unharmed by using the wreckage of the Superior as a shield, as the crippled Star Destroyer succumbed to the gravity well of the gas giant and crashed into its atmosphere.
The Superior made an appearance in Force Heretic I: Remnant, a 2003 New Jedi Order novel authored by Shane Dix and Sean Williams.
