Talk: List of books

Before I start to enumerate each individual issue, could someone please inform me of the precise title of the Marvel Star Wars comic book series? --Imperialles 18:49, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • My understanding is that it's generally referred to as just "Star Wars"--Eion 21:31, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • If that's the case, I intend to title the articles as Marvel Star Wars #1, and so forth. --Imperialles 21:33, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • If that's the case, I intend to title the articles as Marvel Star Wars #1, and so forth. --Imperialles 21:33, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Should This Be Divided?

Would it perhaps be beneficial to divide this article into separate lists for comics, novels, short story collections, and other relevant categories? It's getting rather lengthy. Silly Dan 01:59, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • I concur that a detailed and inclusive list is necessary. However, I don't believe we should overdo the splitting of content-- Eion 04:00, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

If that's the direction we're taking, perhaps a rename to "List of publications" would be appropriate. While a comprehensive list is valuable, there's certainly room for a dedicated Comic page with more in-depth information. --SparqMan 04:34, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • I've significantly updated the List of Comics page. Would anyone agree that the comics section within this article could simply direct readers to the List of Comics page? OOM-30 17:30, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I appreciate having a comprehensive list here. I'll add a main article link above the comics section on this page, though. Adamwankenobi 17:38, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Speaking for myself, I find this page to be excessively long for merely "books". As I've stated in my comment below, I suggest we emulate the structure of the timeline pages, dividing it into books, comics, films, television series, and video games. We might also consider separate lists for adult and young adult novels. A comprehensive list of all publications/releases would be beneficial, but it should be all-inclusive, encompassing everything except action figures and similar toys. Once we separate it into books and comics (as it currently is), the comics should be split off, as has been done with the timeline page. -- daNi 14:17, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorting

Should the content be organized based on in-universe or out-of-universe chronology, or perhaps alphabetically? --Imperialles 18:54, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Alphabetical order seems the simplest approach. A chronological listing is more suitable for detailing the sequence of events.-- Eion 19:23, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC) Providing a list of books in order of publication would also be quite helpful. --SparqMan 21:24, 4 Jan 2006 (UTC)

A publication order listing would be incredibly useful. I've been searching for something like that for the past month without success.

  • I favor chronological order, as it aligns well with the purpose of this encyclopedia. Adamwankenobi 03:53, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
  • I concur with SparqMan; we need a list of all books sorted by publication order. We already have an in-universe chronological list ( Timeline of Books ), so there's no need to duplicate it here. The specific content of this list is debatable, but perhaps we should mirror our in-universe timelines with corresponding real-world publication timelines. We could then include a message at the top of each timeline page (similar to the "You may be looking for:" box) stating: "This timeline is sorted chronologically according to real-world publication (or release) date. You may be looking for this timeline, sorted chronologically according to in-universe date" (or vice versa, depending on the page). As for the alphabetical suggestion, what purpose would that serve? If someone is searching for a book, wouldn't it be easier to simply search for the title? Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I believe we only require the IU and OOU timelines. -- daNi 13:56, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Does anyone have a list of these in chronological order by publication date? EChuTa! 19:21, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Authorship

Why are authors listed for some entries but not for others? Consistency would be appreciated.211.30.75.248 05:29, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Unlinked Titles

The stubs for the Star Wars Adventure Game Books (such as Hunt the Sunrunner) are already created, so someone could link them. Additionally, is there a book titled "The Gospel According to Star Wars"? Or am I mistaken? Corellian Premier 18:44, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Clone Wars Justification

I wanted to provide a rationale for my placement of the upcoming Karen Traviss novel, Star Wars: The Clone Wars Book 1. While the specific timeframe of the story hasn't been explicitly stated, we can infer its placement based on existing knowledge.

Tmanarl 17:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)Tmanarl

Aren't the Clone Wars novels, movie, and TV series essentially overwriting existing canon? For example, the Battle of Christophsis (featured in the Clone Wars film) occurs in 22 BBY, according to its article here on Wookiepedia. As a result, I've repositioned the novel series in 22 BBY (No Prisoners is set around 22 BBY, so I've placed it in 21 BBY for the time being.) Etan O'Hara 20:24, 6 December 2008

I'm not entirely satisfied with the placement of The Clone Wars, but according to the timeline in the third book of the Coruscant Nights Trilogy, its placement is accurate. I've recently started reading Wild Space, and it mentions that Anakin was knighted three weeks after the Battle of Geonosis. It seems The Clone Wars is creating its own narrative, which I'm not particularly fond of. I would agree with its placement after Jedi Trial, as Anakin is knighted at the end of that book, just after the Battle of Praesitlyn. However, according to Del Rey Books, The Clones Wars takes place after Republic Commando, Hard Contact.Mithraw7 13:00, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Red Links Designation

I intend to remove the redlinks tag at the top of the page, as there are only 13 redlinks out of the hundreds of links present in this article. While I couldn't find a specific policy defining "excessive" redlinks, I don't believe that 13 out of hundreds qualifies as excessive. Esahr 05:19, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

crosscurrent

Is there any confirmation that Crosscurrent is set in the Legacy Era? This seems illogical, as it's supposed to depict the Great Hyperspace War, which occurred over 5,000 years before the Legacy Era. Jaden Korr is also slated to be a main character! How is this even feasible? Flashbacks, perhaps? Etan O'Hara 20:24, 6 December 2008

SW Books

I have a question. Several years ago, I came across a fantastic book that contained diagrams and schematics of Echo Base, the Skywalker farm, the Cantina, and other locations, but I can't recall its title. Does anyone know which book I'm referring to? Thor2000 16:36, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Section Merging

Would it be possible to merge the young readers books with the other novels and rename the novels section as book timeline? I'm willing to assist with this task. If there's no objection, I'll proceed with the changes. --Vitas 07:14, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Updating

  • What is the organizational principle here? The introduction states chronological order, yet Marvel Star Wars appears before Tales of the Jedi. Also, could someone verify the correct order of the TotJ trade paperbacks?
  • Should we include one-shots (such as Star Wars: Purge) or omnibuses? Corellian Premier 23:13, March 2, 2010 (UTC) Your thoughts? Corellian Premier 23:35, March 11, 2010 (UTC)

Huh?

Could we ensure that the list of books and the timeline of books contain the same information? For instance, Black Orchid is listed as 1BBY in the list but 4000BBY in the timeline. Which is correct?

the great sith jedi war novels

I'm seeking novels that depict the great war between the Jedi and the Sith during the Old Republic era, specifically before Darth Bane. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Pool of Knowledge

Will we ever discover the identity of the figure Jacen saw seated on the throne when he peered into the pool of knowledge? Who do you believe he saw? Was it himself? Did he deliberately set himself on a path to destruction to avoid sitting on the throne?

The Jedi Path

While browsing this page, I noticed that "The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force" is missing. I'm curious where it would fit in, perhaps under reference sections? I'm interested in learning about all the reference books, even if I don't intend to read them all.

Comics Separation?

This topic was previously discussed at length. Should all comics now be exclusively listed on the List of comics page? This page is quite extensive, and there seemed to be a consensus on this matter previously. I can implement the necessary changes if needed. --JMM 16:07, May 13, 2011 (UTC)

Indicator

Should we implement a method to indicate which books have been published and which are still forthcoming? I believe a link to a page listing upcoming books would be beneficial. Please share your ideas. Darth Needham 03:28, June 2, 2011 (UTC)

Art and Making of Books

Where should "The Art and Making of Star Wars: The Old Republic" and "The Art and Making of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" books be categorized? I couldn't find them in the list. Should they be listed under "Art" or "Making Of"?

Rationale for In-universe Chronological Order?

I'm questioning the use of in-universe chronological order for this article. If I need the in-universe chronology, I can consult the Timeline of books or comics, or any other relevant article, and find a more comprehensive resource there. What unique value does presenting the titles in IU chronological order add to Wookieepedia? It seems redundant to me. It would be more beneficial to re-sort this article by publication date. —Eшσҡ $їтӈ Lōяƌ 21:53, January 5, 2013 (UTC)

  • Why not incorporate both, perhaps with a sortable table? Jason Scott ( talk ) 23:44, January 5, 2013 (UTC)

  • That's not a bad concept. One of my primary concerns was that sorting by publishing date would provide users with a means to discover upcoming and recently released books that they might have missed. While upcoming books are listed in the Future Novels category, it's difficult to find recently published books if you've been away for a while. There's no efficient way to search for them on this site. — Eшσҡ $їтӈ Lōяƌ 21:57, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

  • There's a significant challenge with the sortable table idea: the in-universe years are represented using BBY and ABY. How would you ensure proper sorting with these designations? For instance, given the years 5,000 BBY, 32 BBY, 0 BBY, 1 ABY, 30 ABY, the sorting would likely result in this order: 0 BBY, 1 ABY, 30 ABY, 32 BBY, 5,000 BBY. I'm not sure how a sortable table could effectively address this issue. — Eшσҡ $їтӈ Lōяƌ 22:19, January 14, 2013 (UTC) While it would require additional effort, you could use the table cell "data-sort-value" attribute to specify a custom sorting key, allowing you to use "-5000", "-32", etc., to ensure correct sorting. There might be another method using "!", but I haven't tested it. However, it would undoubtedly be a significant undertaking. Jason Scott (talk) 06:52, January 15, 2013 (UTC) The added effort would be justified if it were feasible and offered something new. However: (a) as EwokSithLord points out, the in-universe ordering is already available in another article, which offers a better format for the data than a sortable table (by logically grouping related books); (b) using the BBY/ABY year as a sort key lacks the necessary granularity to accurately sort by in-universe chronology: a great deal happens in 0 ABY, for example, and the dedicated Timeline page can order these events correctly, whereas a sortable table could not; and (c) over a hundred entries in this list (reference books, coloring books, etc.) lack any in-universe placement. Therefore, it makes the most sense to present this page in publication order, as this information is not currently available elsewhere. Asithol (talk) 03:17, May 13, 2013 (UTC) Ah, I need to correct my previous statement. In fact, the List of novels by release date covers a subset of this page in publication order, and the List of Star Wars media covers a superset in publication order. Given this, along with the Timeline of books, which essentially represents this page in in-universe order, one might question the necessity of this page's existence at all. Asithol (talk) 22:26, June 26, 2013 (UTC)

Canon Status

This list isn't intended solely for Legends material, is it? Because there's virtually no canon content included here. ProfessorTofty (talk) 18:49, October 11, 2014 (UTC)

Why am I being banned? I haven't done anything wrong; I'm simply ADDING more books and comics. Users Brules and Rakhsh are banning me for dedicating my free time to this website and improving it. This needs to STOP!

  • Comics and short stories belong on their respective pages.-- Rakhsh ( talk ) 14:45, August 1, 2016 (UTC)

1.1 Reorganization

The list of Star Wars books is not in chronological year order. Whoever made the last edit simply added content at the beginning! I'm unable to sort it using my iPad. Could someone please correct this?

Young Reader Legends Legacy Era books

Is there a specific reason, perhaps one I'm overlooking, for most of the Young Reader Legends books being listed as being in the Legacy Era? I could attempt to sort some out, but I wanted to inquire first in case there's a particular reason why this is appropriate. 420-Canon (talk) 23:39, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
