Publisher's summary
Back cover
As the Clone Wars escalate, hidden agendas and grim fates come to light, forcing a critical question: Are the methods used ever justifiable by the outcome? The Jedi are about to discover the answer.
Inside flap
The Clone Wars are in full swing throughout the galaxy. Count Dooku, a former Jedi who is secretly a Sith Lord, is leading the Separatists in their relentless advance. More and more planets are either surrendering or breaking away to join their cause. The Republic, under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, is fighting valiantly, supported by its massive clone army and their Jedi commanders.
Anakin Skywalker, whom some believe is the "Chosen One" foretold to bring balance to the Force, is now a Jedi Knight being trained by his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Death is a constant threat, and his chances of survival are not helped by the sudden arrival of Ahsoka, a spirited and inexperienced fourteen-year-old Padawan. However, Anakin has no time to question his latest orders. He and Obi-Wan have been given a new assignment, and failure is unacceptable.
Jabba the Hutt's young son has been abducted, and the desperate father turns to the Jedi for assistance. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and their clone troopers are tasked with finding clues and rescuing the missing Huttlet. The stakes are high, as a grateful Jabba might grant the Republic access to the Hutt-controlled hyperspace lanes, which the Grand Army desperately needs to defeat the Separatists.
However, the Republic is not the only faction seeking access to these hyperspace lanes. Count Dooku is determined to secure them for the Separatists and has set a trap for the Jedi. When they locate the Huttlet, they will also encounter Dooku's deadly assassin, Asajj Ventress, and a vast army of battle droids lying in wait.
The animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which takes place before Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, sets the stage for the groundbreaking TV series. Both the film and the series feature original content from the imagination of George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars. These new adventures and characters are brought to life in book form by Karen Traviss, a #1 New York Times bestselling Star Wars author.
Continuity
The publication of Star Wars: The Clone Wars introduced several continuity discrepancies.
Dating of events
According to the Star Wars Annual 2011, the story occurs during the second year of the Clone Wars, as part of the timeline adjustments made due to the TV series. The Essential Reader's Companion later adjusted the story's date to 22 BBY.
The book's release preceded the film's debut, and it includes details from early screenplay versions that were ultimately omitted from the final film.
CT-9932
During the Battle of Teth, after Asajj Ventress's droid forces decimate Torrent Company, Captain Rex requests a status report from the survivors via comlink towards the end of chapter 12. Six clones respond, including Coric and CT-9932.
The surviving troopers are mentioned again near the end of chapter 13, and there are six in total: Rex, Coric, Zeer, Attie, Nax, and Del. This number remains consistent throughout the rest of the Teth sequence. This aligns with Rex's observation, upon regaining consciousness, that his helmet's HUD indicated five of his men were still alive. This suggests that two of the six comlink responses in chapter 12 came from the same trooper, implying that CT-9932 is the designation for either Zeer, Attie, Nax, or Del, although the novel does not explicitly identify which trooper.
